Creating a tarot card every day until I’ve collaged a whole deck. Day 17!

This is The Tower. 🔥

It represents chaos, sudden change, upheaval — and also — liberation & awakenings.

I was really excited to find this image of Carl Jung’s Bollingen Tower — a physical manifestation of his psyche, representing an extension of his consciousness. A Psychological Tower.

I chose his tower to represent the ego, false identities, and the parts of us that were built on not-so-solid ground.

Lightning strikes the tower to symbolize a sudden force or some kind of divine intervention, shaking things up suddenly and unexpectedly.

The flames represent destruction & the collapse of things / systems / relationships that are no longer serving us.

It can be painful, but it’s purpose is to wake us up — forcing us to look at what is false, what needs to change…

This can be seen as a necessary cleansing or purification. Out with the old… making way for the new.

After losing my home / entire community / everything I own in the Eaton Fire (almost exactly a year ago?!!) I feel this card on a deep personal level.

Realizing everything was gone was my very own tower moment. A rug pull no one saw coming.

For months I viewed this experience as an ending, There was no hope, no bright side.

But time has gifted me with a new perspective. It’s shown me that there is more to the story of The Tower than meets the eye.

After you go through something painful, where everything you know is stripped away, you are presented with a choice — how would YOU like to rebuild?

I’ve been dreaming of having my own sticker machine since I started @playdatewiththeuniverse & NOW I DO! 🤩

Unfortunately the slot is only big enough for one sticker at a time (versus the 3 pack mystery reading in my shop) but Im still OBSESSED…

This beauty will live in my creative studio in Pasadena (which will soon begin hosting fun community events and workshops!!!). I’m excited for folks to have a chance to experience some old school sticker nostalgia IRL.✨

It took almost 3 days to decoupage the entire machine. I cleaned it off with alcohol then used Mod Podge as both a glue and a top coat to seal everything in. It was messy. It was sticky. I had a fucking blast… 🤸 by @stephjgilbert

My denial keeps you here. 🕊️🖤 I was honored when @courtneylaplante asked me to create a collage for the new @spiritboxmusic single — Mourning. Her instructions were simple: “listen to the song & make what you feel”…   A few days later, @josh_gilbert & I went for a walk around our neighborhood park.   On the way, I saw a mourning dove, sitting alone beside the swings.

I grabbed my phone to snap a photo. In that same moment, a little girl ran by. The dove got startled & flew away…

At first I was frustrated, having missed the opportunity to capture the perfect subject for my artwork.

Then I looked at my camera roll & saw something magical.
 It wasn’t the image of peaceful stillness I’d hoped for.

Instead, it was out of focus & blurry. A fleeting moment, a hope & a loss.

Grief feels like that.

Both sad & hopeful, simultaneously holding the guilt of moving on + the joy of remembering, clinging tightly to memories that blur over time, because it’s all you have left…

Loss leaves a hole. But love leaves traces, shadows, reflections. 💔 Now, go listen to the song. xx by @stephjgilbert

DIY stained glass project in my new creative studio space 🌈✨ Simple process, BIG impact. Now I love coming in here and seeing the city street through rose / green / orange / blue etc colored glasses 😎 (and I feel like I gave the people outside something more fun to look at too!)

Tarot was born as a game. Somewhere along the way, we forgot. Playdate with the Universe by Stephanie Gilbert reminds us: handmade collage, Swords become Pencils, Wands become Matches, Pentacles become Diamonds. Bright, playful, free. As if cutting and pasting were a way of putting yourself back together. Perhaps it is. 🎨✂️

Last week I finally, officially, launched my tarot deck @playdatewiththeuniverse ✨🤸 — after starting the project last September it feels surreal to see it existing in the world, in other peoples houses & hands. Wow. 🤯

The last 3 weeks have been a blur…

I’ve shipped 300+ Kickstarter orders, moved into a new creative office space (cannot wait to share more about it soon!), then immediately began packing & shipping 300+ orders from launch week 🫠 *so much cardboard, someone get this girl a nap!

I’M BOTH FALL ON MY FACE EXHAUSTED… and INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL!

When I started this project I had no idea so many others would resonate with it and I’m still trying to process that. 🥹

Thank you for going on this journey with me. For cheering me on & supporting / sharing the deck… it’s really hard to find words for how much it all means to me.
