My first show last night! Thank you for all the friends who came to first Friday! I very much appreciate it. It was a strange experience to watch people stop and padlock their eyes on my collage and even more fun to discuss it with people. My fellow artist friends @springsmithart and @dan.white.under.the.stars were also there with their pieces! It was their first time too. It was truly an amazing experience! Show ends Sept 25 so be sure to see it before it leaves and think about Love ! taken in Santa Cruz Art League by @stephr1000

Water coloring with #eaeckerman at the #santacruzartleague Exploring watercolor class yesterday. I tried some seaweed! He makes it look easy . His work is beautiful, bright and dreamy. My first attempts at glazing. I’m sure I’ll try again. Thank you for a delightful afternoon! taken in Santa Cruz Art League by @stephr1000

Artist friends — would you consider donating a piece? 🎨❤️

The Santa Cruz Art League is getting ready for its 2026 Luck of the Draw Exhibit & Fundraiser, and they’re looking for artists to donate original artwork.

I love the idea behind this fundraiser: donated artwork becomes part of an exhibition, and the event helps SCAL continue offering free art exhibitions and receptions to our community.

If you have a piece you’d be happy to contribute, it’s a lovely way to:

• have your work exhibited at the Santa Cruz Art League
• introduce your work to new people and collectors
• be part of a fun community exhibition
• support a nonprofit arts organization and help keep art accessible in Santa Cruz

Submissions are open now through October 23 at 5 PM.
The exhibition runs October 28–November 7, with the First Friday reception on November 6 and the main event on November 7.

Who’s got a piece they’d like to send out into the world for a good cause?

Sweet love rings of fire , analog collage using 1955 Everybody’s magazine. What can love feel like? Butterflies, a racing, sweetness, intensity of fire and for who? Or maybe a what? And how does this feeling of love change over time? #collage #stephamienielsenart taken in Santa Cruz, California by @stephr1000

#santacruzartleague One of the best art shows I’ve seen this year. The Santa Cruz Art League’s Landscape Exhibition is absolutely stunning. Every wall offers another breathtaking view of California, painted by local master artists. The exhibition is beautifully curated, the quality stunning, and it reminds me just how fortunate we are to live in a place that inspires such amazing work that we can experience . Whether you’re an artist, a collector, or simply someone who loves beautiful places, this show is MUST visit. And you could buy a piece as well! Which is super cool! Check it out before it leaves - First Friday events meet the masters!- https://scal.org/current-exhibition taken in Santa Cruz Art League by @stephr1000
