Still not over this sound 🥹

After just three hours of singing together, this beautiful bunch absolutely nailed the ending of mine and Hughie's four-part arrangement of Running Up That Hill.

There’s something pretty magical about a room full of people learning, listening, finding their part and then suddenly… it all comes together. 💙

Huge thank you to everyone who came and sang with us — and especially to those who took the leap and joined us for the first time.

And we’re doing it all again! Our next Song in a Day is Saturday 12 December at ARK Cliftonville, and this time we’ll be taking on Last Christmas! Yep, that's right...I can barely contain myself 😂

One week to go until Ramsgate Festival of Sound! 💙

I’m delighted to be playing two gigs on Saturday 12th September:

🍍 4pm @honeysuckle_inn
🍍 5pm @the_fermentorium

Both gigs are free and unticketed, so just turn up!

Access info:
The Honeysuckle Inn is a 300-year-old pub with lots of stairs, so unfortunately access is limited.

The Fermentorium — the ground floor is wheelchair accessible (I checked today 😊). I’ll be playing down in the basement, but you’ll still be able to hear the set from the ground floor.

Just a week and a half to go until our next Song in a Day, so I wanted to answer a couple of questions that have been asked 👆

On watching this back, I noticed that I hit a couple of interesting notes while speaking, so obviously I’ve included them...because that’s the kind of geek I am, and I know a lot of you are too 😂🎵 (bonus activity: if you're bored you can choose the best chords to accompany my weird notes, I'll send an apple to the one I like the most)

There's very few things I love more than hearing a room full of voices belting out a song together 🥹

For a few hours, we stop worrying about getting it right, listen a little more closely, and somehow end up creating something none of us could have made on our own.

That's why I love Song in a Day so much.

This September we're taking on one of my favourite songs ever—Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush—and learning it together in three-part harmony.

If you've been thinking about coming to one of these workshops, we'd love this to be your first.

it’s been a little while since I shared a ditty ✨

The prompt for this month’s song club was about letters or messages we never sent.

When I first had Sophie, someone told me about this beautiful idea of keeping a notebook full of messages, moments, and memories to give your child when they’re older.

Well… that lasted about one day before I thought: f**k that, I can barely shower myself let alone keep a notebook 😅

But this month’s prompt reminded me that, although not in letter form, I do write to my daughter often. Just through songs instead.

So this is a little ditty I wrote for Sophie this week 💛

I’ll be sharing it live at our Song Club sharing session tomorrow too 😊

I think I’ve been trying to build this for a long time without really realising it.

Steph’s Song Club came from years of writing on my own, and slowly understanding how much more alive the process feels when it’s shared.

Just made a huge pot of Lobeyah — an Afghan kidney bean stew 🫘. I learned this recipe from some of the bravest young people I know from Open Arms @piefactorymusic 😊

Tomorrow it's all going to Sounding by the Sea at Ark, Cliftonville — live music with the incredible Alkanna Graeca and Robert Stillman, and bellies full of good food.
