We've been married for 15 years today. FIFTEEN YEARS 😅. Michael is gentle and kind and funny and smart and the best partner I could have hoped for in this wild and wonderful life.

Love you Mickey.

p.s can you play bass and drums on my album please 🤣

Still not over this sound 🥹

After just three hours of singing together, this beautiful bunch absolutely nailed the ending of mine and Hughie's four-part arrangement of Running Up That Hill.

There’s something pretty magical about a room full of people learning, listening, finding their part and then suddenly… it all comes together. 💙

Huge thank you to everyone who came and sang with us — and especially to those who took the leap and joined us for the first time.

And we’re doing it all again! Our next Song in a Day is Saturday 12 December at ARK Cliftonville, and this time we’ll be taking on Last Christmas! Yep, that's right...I can barely contain myself 😂

Tickets are live now — grab yours via the link in bio!

Camp Christmas here we commmmeeeee 🥰

A look inside the songwriting retreat I hosted this summer in Scotland. Music by @jonnydemuir and @camille_ruz - ‘The Villain’, written that week.

AND excited to be launching a monthly, 1-day version in Leeds. If you’re in the Yorkshire area, join us on the 7th November for the first ever @songspaghetti at @headingleyheart 🍝 (more info and tickets in my bio)

Can we learn the full arrangement of ‘Blackbird’ in 45 minutes?

In the last week of the summer, I decided to try out one of @stephydickinson and my song in a day arrangements. See if we could get through it. Here's how we got on 🎶🎶🎶

New Christmassy SIAD announcement coming very soon 👀

The new @oasis documentary ‘Don't Look Back In Anger’ comes out in cinemas tomorrow. It was a real privilege to work on @zebedeecbudworth score. Our bits span cathedral-like, grandeur to vocal drones and micro-polyphony with a bit of 60s nostalgia thrown in. It's a brilliant score!

I'm so glad to have been involved and wanted to say thanks to everyone who made the choir-ing possible, firstly to the amazing members of the @socialsingingchoir for all their effort, hard work and beautiful voices! Couldn't be prouder.

And to all the sectional leads, @mikeycolsmusic for engineering, @tomadamsmusic for his lovely baritone solo, Phil @dausounds for both singing and helping with score prep, @thetaproomcliftonville for letting us rehearse in the pub the day before the record, @rubywasmuthh for all her help with choir wrangling, and Laura Harrison and the team at @mannersfaber for all the work behind the scenes and getting the choir and me involved!

Seeing the Gallagher brothers' emotional response at the Venice Film Festival premiere was a real reminder of how special it is to be part of this film. We can't wait for the ‘Margate premiere’ tomorrow night.

A few spaces left for this Saturday 💙

Come and spend the morning with us learning a three-part arrangement of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.

You don’t need to read music, you don’t need to be a super-confident singer — just come ready to sing, make some noise and be part of something lovely.

10am–1pm
ARK Cliftonville

One week to go until Ramsgate Festival of Sound! 💙

I’m delighted to be playing two gigs on Saturday 12th September:

🍍 4pm @honeysuckle_inn
🍍 5pm @the_fermentorium

Both gigs are free and unticketed, so just turn up!

Access info:
The Honeysuckle Inn is a 300-year-old pub with lots of stairs, so unfortunately access is limited.

The Fermentorium — the ground floor is wheelchair accessible (I checked today 😊). I’ll be playing down in the basement, but you’ll still be able to hear the set from the ground floor.

Would really love to see you there if you’re around! x

Just a week and a half to go until our next Song in a Day, so I wanted to answer a couple of questions that have been asked 👆

On watching this back, I noticed that I hit a couple of interesting notes while speaking, so obviously I’ve included them...because that’s the kind of geek I am, and I know a lot of you are too 😂🎵 (bonus activity: if you're bored you can choose the best chords to accompany my weird notes, I'll send an apple to the one I like the most)

Anyway…

Membership sign-ups for the @socialsingingchoir reached capacity earlier this week and are now closed. It will reopen again in November. However, a few people wanted to join but asked about alternative session times.

The choir only rehearses on Tuesday evenings; however, I do run a quarterly ‘Song In A Day’ workshop with @stephydickinson

The next one is on Saturday 12th at @arkcliftonville, 10- 1 pm.

Tickets are £25 for the 3-hour workshop; there is also a low-income option. Some spots are still available via the link in my (@jaklmusic ) bio.

There's very few things I love more than hearing a room full of voices belting out a song together 🥹

For a few hours, we stop worrying about getting it right, listen a little more closely, and somehow end up creating something none of us could have made on our own.

That's why I love Song in a Day so much.

This September we're taking on one of my favourite songs ever—Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush—and learning it together in three-part harmony.

If you've been thinking about coming to one of these workshops, we'd love this to be your first.
