The annual @viticulture_australia T-Shirt growth chart with the boys.

We all thought I would be the second tallest this year but it looks like we are even

Lucky the shirt was released so early….. another month and I would be been second

There’s also an @asvo_official beanie this year too

My first job in a vineyard was as a casual, dropping fruit under nets for weeks, then straight into a full on vintage. After that my first winter of piece rate pruning…. It was a hard slog, which I never thought would turn into winning the ASVO Viticulturist of the Year 2025.

A casual job that has turned into 21 vintages in 4 different regions, and a fulfilling career.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the people along the way. The ones that took the time to teach me, be patient with me, spend money on training, putting up with bad dad jokes or just being a sounding board for ideas.

Also the small words of encouragement from others that seem minor at the time, that are remembered for a long time. So let’s do more of that.

We all learn from someone. It’s really important to remember those people, and if you can, let them know that you appreciate them.

I have sent out my thanks directly to them.

I would like to thank @asvo_official for this award.

All of my friends at @viticulture_australia and every single person out in the vineyard, doing their best everyday.

I am grateful that my father and big sister were able to be with me on the evening.

When I was 16, listening to Fear Factory’s “Obsolete” album, I never would have thought I would be sitting in a bar with burtoncbell_official and @mrssherrybell having a wine. Let alone one that I helped make. Thank you for being a man of the people Burton. Thank you to @winestothestars for being the legend who makes things like this possible #burtoncbell by @stevedfaulkner

This is a tiny part of one drop of compost tea, and we make 1000L batches

The amount of life in this minuscule amount, still after so many years looking at it, mind blowing.

Although still I am an amateur microscope driver. First view is lower magnification then we swap to 400x

This compost tea has only been brewing for 12 hours and we have so much life

Old fungi being a food source for new life, new fungi growing from spores

Fungi, bacteria, amoeba, Protozoa all living here and their numbers will grow exponentially over the next 24 hours
