Despite not running sub 2:30 that was the target at the start of the training block, really happy to run 2:41:25.
Yesterday I didn’t think I could run the distance as my calf strain 8 weeks ago never recovered. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a proper marathon session in the last 7-8 weeks, and no session in at all the last 4 weeks. & jogging not much faster than 4.50/k.
Put the faith in my Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 to help the calf and aimed for 2:35-37 knowing the work might not be there but let’s fine out! All held up well until the last 16k when the calf strain & lack of training for the distance and time caught up. Good hurt locked training the last 16k but I walk (limp) away happy. The crowds on course were phenomenal - loud, positive & full of energy!!
Now recovery time before back into the training when the body is ready for Tokyo and a sub 2:30!

Amazing support as always from my family (Mel ran a lovely 3:37 NY today), my training squad & run mates, friends & team Brooks Aus!

Sydney Marathon - what a show you put on!! Amazing event!! Mel ran an sensational marathon off such hindered training. I had the most fun I have ever had in a marathon - only decided to run it 6 weeks ago with a plan to enjoy it and run 2:35 give or take 5min (2:29:25 even better)!
Had the most amazing weekend away thanks to our good mate @geofflucas who looked after Mel & I like family. Legend!
Thanks to Brooks as well for all of your support over the years (the race shoes are 👌) and how good were the best boat cruise on Sydney Harbour! by @stevedinneen
