F$&%@& love this monologue by Steve. So raw, so real.

Remind me never to owe Steve $20... 😱💵

There are moments in acting classes where you forget you are watching a scene, and you start wondering if you should call the police. 👮‍♂️😅

Saturday 30.11., Steve and Emily took us to that dangerous place with their scene from Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

When Steve started that confession... the whole room froze. He wasn't just "acting" angry. He took us through the whole brutal night. The demand for $20. The fight with the drunk guy. The sound of something "breaking" in his chest. 🦴💥

And then... throwing him over a fence into a driveway while people watched? Steve, the way you described that violence—the "stomp," the "kick," and the terrifying uncertainty of "I don't know if I killed him"—was absolutely chilling.

And Emily. To sit across from that energy and hold your ground? To listen to a man confess a potential murder and stay in the moment? That is fearless acting.

Anthony Hopkins said, "I'm fascinated by the shadow side of our personality. It's the part that is most alive."

You two explored the shadow side, and you made it incredibly, terrifyingly alive.

(But seriously, Steve... remind me to always pay my tuition fees on time! 😂)

I am so grateful for the time I’ve spent with the cast and crew of How I Learned to Drive over the past several months. I have learned so much about myself and about these amazing and inspiring human beings. It’s through collaboration and kindness that I find true meaning in life, and this journey has been an absolute joy. I will cherish it forever. ♥️

~~~~~~~
@saran_polchan Thank you for seeing something in me that I didn’t see in myself until this run. Your guidance was nuanced and deliberate…thank you for your vision.
@chayafgonzales.irl You made me feel welcome and seen for who I truly am as an actor and friend, and your generosity on and off stage is a gift. You were my rock and inspired me so deeply.
@gabriela.moriarty You are a light of introspection and thoughtfulness, and always without judgement.
@_igobymanynames_ You are my Gen Z translator. Your presence and gothness have been a welcome source of lightheartedness and joy.
@neilanth0ny You embodied each vastly different character fully and you bring a steady hand of professionalism and joy to the work.
@absone_bel You’re so keenly aware of your surroundings and you offer yourself and your feelings freely and without fear.
@firstatsrif Your hilarious antics on and off stage kept me in the moment, focused on the task at hand, always aware of why we were there: to have fun.
@choyaichaiyo Your ability to keep everything in tune and on time was unreal. Cue to cue, mark to mark, curtain to curtain…you were always locked in.
@thomas.brunning Your talents are on display all over this production. Impeccable digital visuals, the photographs on stage and of the stage, and your ability to fully support Chaya and me with our process.
@pu_d The maintainer of all the physical things. How you were able to keep all the props and set pieces exactly where they needed to be, I have no idea. You were a joy to work with.
@n._.a_m_e What a wonderful surprise it was to cross paths with you again. Grateful to reconnect and share such a profound experience with you.
@intimacy_coordinator_thailand Your steady hand and delicacy for coordinating such sensitive scenes cannot be overstated. by @stevemolter
On September 11, 2012, I suffered a stroke. A vertebral artery in my brain tore and caused bleeding which ultimately triggered a stroke to occur.
It was a harrowing week while doctors tried to determine the cause, and I laid in an ICU bed contemplating my life up to that point. I reflected on all the things I had never done, the things I had done that I regretted, and the things I had done that brought joy to myself and the world around me. Thankfully, the latter outweighed than the former two.
I was scared to die, which was a possibility for a moment, but I knew in my heart that I had lived a life to be proud of. And so I was at peace with the possibility of ushering off the mortal coil if it were to come to pass.
14 years later, I sit at my computer writing words similar to those I write every year on this day…trying to consider whether the life that was not taken from me that day has been earned each day since.
Those of you who know me personally know that I am a sharer of myself and the emotional in-between of humans…someone who’s not afraid to dig into the charnel ground of internal struggle, someone who reflects deeply on the strange and wonderful decisions that we as humans make every day. I get my hands dirty sifting through my own fears and ego-based patterns, looking at myself in the mirror as a way to uncover my true Self along the way. It’s hard work. But necessary to know oneself.
For me, today is a day to celebrate my surviving a potentially catastrophic injury and learning how to live again in the days and years since. I am proud of who I am, of who I’ve become. Today is a day to celebrate life.
If you’d like to read more about my stroke experience, I’ve written several pieces that are published on my website (stevemolter.com). And there’s one at the bottom of my Linktree (in bio) that walks through the details of the whole thing.
Love this life.
ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 On the 4th of July we welcomed Desi into our family! Like Gordon, Desi was once a homeless orphan in our neighborhood. He was on the brink of death with sporotrichosis when he was spotted by a student, then rescued by the Nonthaburi Animal Welfare Alliance. He went through over six grueling months of treatment before he was well enough to be adopted! Desi came to us with the name Angelo, but in keeping with our Twin Peaks naming conventions, his full name is Special Agent Chester “Chet” Angelo Desmond, a.k.a. Desi. He is very playful and loving. He and Dougie get along so well! And Major and Potato are starting to like him as well 😊 We love you, Desi! Welcome to our family! taken in Bangkok, Thailand by @stevemolter
Hello friends. Our beautiful baby Gordo crossed the rainbow bridge last Monday evening. He passed away peacefully at home in our arms with his siblings Dougie Jones, Major, and Potato nearby.
He fought hard for two months against leukemia, lymphoma, and FIV, but the combination of illnesses was just too much for his immune system to handle.
He was the perfect cat. A pure soul of sweetness, kindness, patience, humor, smarts, and love. Our hearts are absolutely shattered right now and we miss him dearly. He was only four years old and brought so much joy and love to our lives. We know he’s free from his pain and in a better place now frolicking with all the kitties and doges who came from the Stewart and Molter families before him.
I can’t wait to see him again in the next life.
