A DAY WE WON'T FORGET: MH VISITS CYTD IN MOROGORO!

This week, our partners from Mennonitisches Hilfswerk (MH) walked the very ground our Youth Community Working Groups have been transforming in Kilakala and Bigwa wards and what a homecoming it was!

From tree-lined school compounds to thriving youth-led community projects, MH saw first-hand what happens when young people are trusted, trained, and given the tools to lead:

🌳 2,500 trees planted and growing strong 18 youth climate & community ambassadors across 2 wards 3 primary schools, 1 secondary school & a Folk Development Centre reached and educated 2 community working groups, empowered and still going strong

But the real story isn't the numbers it's the young people of Kilakala and Bigwa who showed up, organized their peers, and are now leading change in their own community. That's the CYTD way: we don't do development FOR the community, we walk WITH the community as it builds its own future.

To our friends at MH, asante sana (thank you so much) for believing in our children and youth, for making the journey to Morogoro, and for seeing this work not as a project, but as a partnership.

This visit isn't the end of a chapter, it's the start of the next one. Watch this space.

Before I wasn't aware of the cultural differences and cuteness of the diversity. After travelling to many countries I found a lot to learn and compare with my home culture. This is beyond exposure and fame, it's learning through others.

Community empowerment is beyond impartment of knowledge. It goes beyond knowledge transformation. It needs special care and consideration, listening at high level to nevigate and walk with them, to understand the actual challenges. This is a root stage of empowerment. by @steven_ndyanabo

Handing over trees to communities is far more than an engagement activity. It is about building ownership, responsibility, and long-term commitment to climate action.

When communities are empowered and supported to understand the realities of climate change—and given the opportunity to invest their time, energy, and heart in addressing it—they become more than participants. They become changemakers, protectors, and stewards of their environment.

This is the power of community-led climate action. This is what we are building through Youth Action for Climate Change: communities that are informed, empowered, and committed to protecting the environment for generations to come.
