One of the best parts of summer is welcoming Jalen Brunson ‘15 back to Stevenson for his annual youth basketball camp, and this year’s visit was especially memorable. Fresh off leading the New York Knicks to an NBA Championship and earning NBA Finals MVP honors, Jalen returned to where it all began — not just to teach basketball, but to share the mindset that helped him reach the highest level of the game.

Jalen was joined by his former coach, Pat Ambrose, fellow alumni Connor Cashaw ‘15, Matt Johnson ‘15, and Sam Panitch ‘14, along with current SHS basketball coaches and players. Together, they spent the week encouraging campers to work hard, lead by example, be great teammates, and commit to becoming the best version of themselves — on the court, in the classroom, and throughout the community.

On behalf of the Stevenson Foundation, thank you to Jalen, our incredible volunteers, Stevenson basketball coaches and players, and every camper, parent, sponsor, and supporter who made another unforgettable Jalen Brunson Youth Basketball Camp possible. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this week such a meaningful experience, and we can’t wait to do it all again next summer.

Special thanks to Ali Marks Brunson ‘14, Alana Tawil Cooper ‘98, and Jennie Novakovic ‘95, Carl Brown, Regan Carmichael, Joey Lane, Kyle Beyak, Heather Glaser, Hailey Lyzack, Jordan Brown, Will Benson, Daniella Jarrell, and Jim Russo.

Get ready to cheer on Stevenson alumnus Jordan Mayer ’98, who will be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune!

Wheel of Fortune receives nearly 1 million applicants each year, yet only about 10,000 are invited to audition. From that pool, just 500–600 contestants are ultimately selected to appear on the show.

Jordan’s episode airs Monday, September 28 (September 29 at 3:07 AM in the Chicagoland area due to the Bears game). You can also watch on Hulu and Peacock beginning September 29. Check your local listings for broadcast times.

Jordan lives in Wauconda with his wife, fellow Class of ’98 graduate Marina Goldblatt, their two kids, and their dog, Rizzo. Jordan is VP of New Business Development for a marketing agency, while Marina is a Director of Content for a B2B company.

Alumna Fiona Gaffney ’17 has been selected as the 2026 Chicago Rose and will represent Chicago at the internationally renowned Rose of Tralee International Festival in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, later this month.

Established in 1959, the Rose of Tralee is one of Ireland’s best-known cultural festivals, celebrating the global Irish community and the enduring connections of the Irish diaspora. The festival recognizes women of Irish heritage for their leadership, accomplishments, community involvement, and their role as ambassadors for their hometowns and countries.

This year’s festival will feature 32 Roses — 19 representing counties across Ireland and 13 representing international Rose Centres. Chicago is one of five U.S. cities represented in the international field.

The festival culminates with two live, nationally televised selection nights on August 17–18, when one of the 32 participants will be named the 2026 International Rose of Tralee.
