It’s a huge honour and a privilege to be sworn in as #Exeter’s new MP. Thank you again to everyone who voted, and who voted for to put their trust in me and the Labour Party.

I’m slowly getting my office set up but some things will take time - thank you for your forbearance! Exeter residents can be in touch on Steve.Race.MP@Parliament.uk by @steveracemp

Making sure everyone in Exeter has a safe and affordable home 🏠

For too long, rogue landlords have taken advantage of a shortage of council housing to exploit private renters. In the worst cases, tenants are trapped in homes literally left to rot.

So Labour is giving councils stronger powers to tackle these landlords, bring empty and neglected properties back into use, and increase the supply of social housing.

We’re also reforming Right to Buy to protect public housing stock and give councils the confidence to build again.

This builds on work we’ve already done to deliver the biggest long-term investment in social housing in recent memory - ensuring housing works for everyone across our city ❤️ by @steveracemp

Have your say - local families survey 🏡

We’re now well into the new school term, and children across Exeter have settled back into the classroom.

As your MP, I’ve been working hard to give every child the best possible start in life and to support families with the rising cost of living.

We’ve delivered so much for local families already: four Best Start Breakfast Clubs across the city, 30 hours of funded childcare for working parents, and a new Best Start Family Hub, building on the proud legacy of Sure Start.

Now I’d love to hear from local people. Your views are incredibly important and will help shape my priorities for the future.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, carer, or simply passionate about supporting children and families, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts through my survey: https://bit.ly/4yo7e4X by @steveracemp

Labour is on a mission to bring electricity bills down ⚡

For too long, families and businesses in Exeter have been paying the price for a broken energy system, with bills influenced by markets far beyond our shores.

That’s why the Prime Minister has set a bold ambition: to get Britain’s energy costs in line with other European countries within the next decade.

As part of that mission, we’ve already moved some levies away from energy bills and onto general taxation, and we’ve removed VAT from electricity bills from this month.

And now we’re going further - we’ll reform the energy market so it works in the public interest and create Great British Grid within Great British Energy - a new publicly owned body that will speed up grid connections, improve competition, support reindustrialisation and drive down bills. by @steveracemp

Free school meals expanded to half a million more children! 🍎📚

It was fantastic to join Bite Back’s young campaigners in Parliament recently to celebrate the expansion of Free School Meals.

Thanks to this landmark change, every child whose family receives Universal Credit will now be entitled to Free School Meals. For too long, many families facing hardship missed out due to outdated eligibility rules. This important step will help break down barriers to opportunity and ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the best possible start in life.

Here in Exeter, up to 2,970 more children will now be eligible for Free School Meals. That means thousands more local children arriving at school well-fed, ready to learn, and able to make the most of every opportunity in the classroom. by @steveracemp

Here’s a look at my week at Labour Party Conference! 🌹

It was a busy few days of meeting Ministers, business leaders, trade unions, international partners and local Labour members to make the case for Exeter and our region.

From discussions on attracting investment into the South West and supporting innovation, to strengthening public services and Britain’s role in the world, there were opportunities throughout the week to champion Exeter and the issues that matter to local people.

The highlight of the week was hearing Prime Minister Andy Burnham set out Labour’s vision for the future: delivering growth in every postcode, investing in communities and tackling the challenges facing our country head-on and with honesty.

I’ve returned to Exeter energised and ready to keep working to deliver for our city! by @steveracemp

Some photos of our fantastic speakers at this week’s Labour for Trans Rights Rally, representing the breadth and strength of solidarity with the trans community in our Labour movement.

Thank you as always to @nadiawhittomemp for chairing this inspiring session, to all of our wonderful speakers, and to @labourviljo for the brilliant photos.

Thank you also to @unitetheunion, @unisontheunion, @gmbunion, @aslefunion, @usdawunion, @cwunews and other trade unions for your unwavering support for trans solidarity.

And a massive thank you to all of you who showed your support at the Rally, leafleted, or who’ve supported LfTR in other ways as our campaign has grown. Trans allies are going nowhere in the Labour Party and labour movement.

Trans rights are human rights 🏳️‍⚧️🌹 by @steveracemp

Labour is scrapping the Thatcher-era ban on public ownership of water companies💧

For too long, communities across Exeter have been left to deal with sewage pollution, underinvestment and poor performance while water company executives have continued to be rewarded.

That’s why Labour is taking action.

We’re removing outdated restrictions that prevent public ownership of water companies, paving the way for greater government control of failing water companies and a water system that works in the public interest.

And we’re tightening the rules on executive bonuses, including reviewing loopholes that have allowed water bosses to be rewarded despite poor performance.

This fantastic news builds on the action Labour has already taken: in just two years, we’ve passed the Water (Special Measures) Act and we’re taking forward the Clean Water Bill to strengthen accountability and ensure water companies clean up their act 🧹 by @steveracemp

September update ✨

I’m very lucky to have a fantastic team who help me to work on behalf of residents in Exeter.

In September, we responded to 1,168 individual cases - several hundred were personal casework issues, and the rest were policy and politics questions on a range of topics.

As ever, if you need help or support get in touch. by @steveracemp
