NEXUS is a hand-crafted, classic sci-fi comic series that helped define an era, and we’re still building it the same way, one page at a time
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
If you grew up loving the kind of stories where the stakes are the entire universe and the hero carries something heavier than just saving the day, we have a feeling you’ll enjoy this.

His name is Nexus.

He was given power by a cosmic entity to hunt down mass murderers across the galaxy. Not because he wanted to. Because he had to, to atone for what his father did.
He became the protector of thousands of intergalactic refugees who had nowhere else to go.

If that sounds like your kind of story, you’re in the right place.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 5 star review from Buck72 (USA/FL): Thank you! Great sale experience.

I recently purchased something from The Steve Rude Store in support of their campaign to help their sick pup. Despite everything they’re dealing with, my order shipped quickly and arrived carefully packed.

If you love classic comic art, Steve is one of the last greats of his generation. Let’s keep him drawing by supporting their store. You’ll get quality merchandise, carefully packed and shipped, while supporting a great artist.

To many, growing older seems to equal cynicism and sourness towards humanity. What people should do, and what they don't do, was instilled to me since being a young Dude. This happened mostly through superhero comics and TV shows. I took to such outlets rather than do what the other kids did by reading the world's great novels, But they often didn't come with pictures. Just like in these cool comic books.

To this day, nothing beats those 12 cent comics I grew up on. From them almost exclusively, and having the luck to have a really good mom and dad, these comics showed me what was to come. Being a Scout for 3 years was a great time, and was on the path I needed to be on; to do something with your life--something good to help those who may not be so lucky.

Sasha is our female Husky. The people that brought her to us a year ago only said, "She only wants a good home and people to be nice to her." To call her the kindest animal I've ever known is not a euphemism. Out of nowhere she became sick. Gino and I had never seen her like that. I told her we have to take her in right away. Something was wrong.

Every pet owner, the decent kind, know that animals are the only creature on earth that give us what they do. I know I don't have to explain that. These beloved creatures are singular and give us things people normally don't or can't give.

So Jaynelle and I had to post a notice. It came in a financial outpouring of giving I thought only animals gave us. Life is expensive. A $30 pet is actually a several thousand dollar pet. They get sick. And sometimes die--way before their time. They have no one to look after them, but us.

The sacrifice all of you made might save an animals life. Sasha is still barely eating or drinking. The vets are doing what I can't, and charging the pet-owners a lot every day she's in there.

Your kindness and sacrifice with these donations are the only reason she might survive.

With endless, ongoing thanks.

Nexus: What It Is! closed today. Thank you, every one of you. We’ll have more to say about that soon.
Right now we need to tell you about Sasha.
She’s still in the hospital. Her liver enzymes are too high for the test to read, her bilirubin has nearly tripled, and the doctors still don’t know why. Today she gets an ultrasound, and plasma so her blood can clot, which lets them do a liver biopsy. She’s staying another night.
The bill is going to be between $6,000 and $10,000. We’ve paid the first $1,000 and qualified for a medical credit card to cover another $3,000. Some of you have asked how to help. Here’s how:
Send any amount by PayPal, Venmo or card at steverude.com/sasha. The link is in our Story.
Or commission a painting. Steve is opening painted commissions today, $1,000 and up, and he’d love to do one larger piece. Email admin@rudedudestudios.com and tell us what you have in mind.
Thank you for loving her with us.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 5 star review from DaveR: Dude is so Rude

What it is!

It didn’t make sense to not have a book of Steve Rude’s great art, bein’ a fan and all. And Nexus … well, Nexus helped me through life. That’s right. Hail Nexus!

“As it happened” contains issues I never managed to find and enjoy. Joy! — And in mini-sized black and white format! Which is awesome.

“Space Opera?” Well, that’s just more Nexus. So that’s good for me.

I’m happy. Nothing but happiness from the Dude.

Thank you, sir!

I had the good fortune to get an email one afternoon from a two-person team in NY asking about a record cover. It came from Charmaine Lee, who couldn't have been more charming in describing what she wanted the cover to reflect. Her partner Randall Dunn, whose music would be on the release, was equally impressive in his enthusiasm for what would be his first solo offering. The irony on my end: I took the job strictly on the strength of his belief in his own abilities, without ever once listening to the music.

The idea was for me to take the germ of an idea from artist and manager and conceive it visually with brush and paint, since everything I do is done with traditional materials. That's how I was taught, and how I still work.

For color and composition I thought back to early Uriah Heep and Yes covers. It's hard to equal anything from the hands of Roger Dean, an early influence on my generation. So, brush in hand, I began the studies needed to crystallize the final painting.

For those wanting the behind-the-scenes scoop: even with an idea fully realized beforehand, it's never as easy as it should be, even after 40 years of daily practice. Randall wanted something I understood as "beyond earthly with lots of color"—the arrival of an alien device descending from the skies, and the beings watching it. Their gestures—confusion, excitement, or both—had to read clearly, yet the painting kept going off-drawing in places, forcing me to repaint those beings (endlessly, it seemed) until they matched what I'd designed from the start. Ahhh, such is the life of an artist.

As the deadline approached, the final cover, along with an added piece featuring Randall for the back, was at last turned in. Charmaine and Randall both enthusiastically accepted what to me was something I should've done in half the time.

One never knows how it will go when both parties are new to each other, but working with Charmaine and Randall produced nothing but positive and lasting rewards. If and when their second release beckons, I'd happily clear off the board and attempt another painting—one that might even better showcase the partnership of Randall and Charmaine.
