Sound Fossils for Adolescent Time, Audiovisual Live Performance curated and composed by Mohamed Abdelkarim, featuring tracks by Malak Helmy, Mostafa Elbaroody, and Aly Abdullah.

Sound Fossils for Adolescent Time is a sonic project produces a series of audio essays, lyrical texts, and poetry integrated with ambient compositions, percussive elements, and meditative soundscapes, intended to be produced as a sound/music double tape cassette EP (A&B) to be released in 2027. The project brings together a curated group of artists, poets, writers, and musicians to collaboratively create these audio-textual tracks for the cassette A.

The project emerges from the idea that the future is no longer a horizon but a wall, where an adolescent phase follows as the beginning of a new time segment (as the Italian philosopher Federico Campagna has suggested, drawing on and extending notions of temporality and circularity found in Ibn Arabi’s thought). taken in Goethe-Institut Ägypten by @stiffsounds._02_

The forthcoming EP-Cassette: “Sound Fossils for Adolescent Time” features a special contribution by the artist Aly Abdullah Al-Qarm with his track “Assertion, No Fulfillment” Aly Abdullah -Al-Qarm is a sound artist, writer, and spoken word performer based in Cairo. His sound releases vary between ambient and drone toward sound design beyond conventional musical frameworks, while his writing and performance are shaped by research and critique of discourse and language within art. His work maneuvers around social and political realities as reflected in heritage, articulated in abstract linguistic terms. by @stiffsounds._02_

انطلاقًا من نقاش ممتد حول أنماط التعبير الناشئة والدارجة وما يحيطها، يستكشف العمل نقائض ومرادفات النمطية، يتحرك بين بحث ما هو بالغ المنطقية ليشير إلى ما ينقصه ليلامس أرضًا واقعية، وليحمل درجة اندفاع إنسانية، وبين ما يتجمل بإسقاط الصفة المنطقية وما ينتجه ذلك من إهمال للنقد الذاتي وعدم ملامسة أراضٍ جديدة.

Throughout an extended discussion about the emerging and popular forms of expression and their surroundings, the artwork explores the contradictions and synonyms of the expressional stereotypes, moves between researching what is excessively logical to indicate what is lacking to touch a realistic ground and to carry a human impulse, and between what is embellishing by eliminating the logical trait and how it results to neglecting self-criticism and lacking the accessibility of new grounds.

This project was part of "ready-made patterns" group exhibition held at @ard_art_institution_
