The Caravaggio Wing at St John’s Co-Cathedral began with an idea and an empty space that offered possibilities for something new.

In this mini-documentary, we hear from some of the people who witnessed the project’s development first-hand, as they share their experiences of what it took to bring the Caravaggio Wing to life.

Discover the story behind this ambitious project, from the original idea to its recognition on the international stage.

Il-Caravaggio Wing fil-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann bdiet minn idea u spazju vojt li kien joffri diversi possibilitajiet għal xi ħaġa ġdida.

F’dan id-dokumentarju qasir, nisimgħu mingħand uħud minn dawk li segwew mill-qrib l-iżvilupp ta’ dan il-proġett, hekk kif jaqsmu l-esperjenzi tagħhom dwar dak kollu li kien meħtieġ biex il-Caravaggio Wing issir realtà.

Skopri l-istorja wara dan il-proġett ambizzjuż, li mill-idea oriġinali tiegħu żviluppa biex jikseb rikonoxximent fuq livell internazzjonali. by @stjohnscocathedral

🎀 You may notice a little more pink around St John’s this October!

On selected days throughout the month, our team will be wearing pink T-shirts to show our support for Pink October and Movember, bringing together awareness of breast cancer and men’s health.

We also marked the start of the month by getting together over coffee and some sweet treats, taking a moment to recognise the importance of both campaigns and the conversations they encourage 🩷🩵

🎀 Matul ix-xahar t’Ottubru, hemm ċans li taraw ftit iktar roża fil-Konkatidral!

F’ċerti ġranet matul ix-xahar, it-tim tagħna se jkun liebes flokkijiet roża biex juri appoġġ għall-Pink October u Movember, żewġ kampanji li jqajmu kuxjenza dwar il-kanċer tas-sider u s-saħħa tal-irġiel.

Immarkajna wkoll il-bidu tax-xahar billi ltqajna flimkien għal kafè u xi ħaġa tajba, li serviet bħala okkażjoni biex bħala tim nirrikonoxxu l-importanza ta’ dawn iż-żewġ kampanji u d-diskussjonijiet li jħeġġu🩷🩵 by @stjohnscocathedral

🇬🇧 What is the connection between Victory Day and St John’s Co-Cathedral?

It takes us back to the Great Siege of 1565, a defining moment in Malta’s history that continues to be remembered at St John’s to this day.

We spoke to Monsignor Paul Vella, Rector of the Co-Cathedral, to learn more about last week’s liturgical celebrations at the Co-Cathedral, and the meaning behind the traditions that continue to be observed on Victory Day.

🇲🇹 X’rabta għandu Jum il-Vitorja mal-Konkatridral ta’ San Ġwann?

Din ir-rabta teħodna lura sal-Assedju l-Kbir tal-1565, mument kruċjali fl-istorja ta’ Malta li għadu jitfakkar f’San Ġwann sal-lum.

Tkellimna mal-Monsinjur Paul Vella, ir-Rettur tal-Konkatidral, biex jgħidilna aktar dwar iċ-ċelebrazzjonijiet liturġiċi li saru fil-Konkatridral il-ġimgħa li għaddiet, u t-tifsira wara t-tradizzjonijiet li għadhom jinżammu ħajjin f’Jum il-Vitorja. by @stjohnscocathedral

🕯️ ⛪ As Malta marks Victory Day today, yesterday St John’s Co-Cathedral observed a tradition of remembrance linked to the Great Siege of 1565.

As the church’s tombstones were blessed, particular prayers were offered at the tombstone of Don Melchior de Robles in the Chapel of the Langue of Auvergne. A Spanish commander who fought in the defence of Malta, de Robles lost his life during the Great Siege and is remembered as one of its heroes, and he would later lay the foundation stone of the city that still bears his name.

The remembrance then continued in the Grand Masters’ Crypt, at the tomb of Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette. It was under de Valette’s leadership that Malta withstood the Great Siege.

Today, the Church also celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, known to many of us as Marija Bambina. Wishing everyone a blessed feast and a happy Victory Day. 🇲🇹

🕯️ ⛪ Hekk kif illum Malta tfakkar Jum il-Vitorja, ilbieraħ il-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann osserva tradizzjoni ta’ tifkira marbuta mal-Assedju l-Kbir tal-1565.

Hekk kif ġew imbierka l-lapidi tal-knisja, sar talb b’mod partikolari ħdejn il-lapida ta’ Don Melchior de Robles fil-Kappella tal-Lingwa ta’ Auvergne. Kmandant Spanjol li ġġieled fid-difiża ta’ Malta, de Robles tilef ħajtu waqt l-Assedju l-Kbir u jibqa’ mfakkar bħala wieħed mill-eroj tiegħu.

It-tifkira kompliet fil-Kripta tal-Gran Mastri, ħdejn il-qabar tal-Gran Mastru Jean Parisot de Valette. Kien taħt it-tmexxija tiegħu li Malta rreżistiet l-Assedju l-Kbir, u aktar tard kien hu li qiegħed l-ewwel ġebla tal-belt li sal-lum iġġib ismu.

Illum il-Knisja tiċċelebra wkoll il-Festa tat-Twelid tal-Verġni Mqaddsa Marija, magħrufa minn ħafna minna bħala Marija Bambina. Nawguraw il-festa t-tajba lil kulħadd 🇲🇹 by @stjohnscocathedral
