Whoever you are, whatever you believe or doubt, you are welcome ❤️‍🔥A congregation of the ELCA in Logan Square, Chicago 🏳️‍⚧️Reconciling in Christ🌈
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Community makes this world more survivable. ❤️‍🔥🔗 More than ever, spaces and structures that facilitate connection and the practice of collaborating across difference are necessary. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Christianity has a past and present of undeniable oppression and cruelty- AND there are folks using it as a structure to build meaningful connections, rituals, and lives in a world trying to isolate us from each other.

We meet every Sunday at 11am at 3325 W Wrightwood in Logan Square. We are normal folks who value ritual, justice, and community and try to put those things at the center of our lives. We hold liturgical services, which means there is regular structure to the services, some singing hymns, and short participatory call and responses, you can follow it all along in the week’s handout or just chill in your seat. Afterwards there’s always a coffee hour to chat and eat a treat. You can wear whatever you want, most people dress casual. We also do other things together, like meet up at breweries to chat or go to protests together.

Our community is a mix of young and old, queer and straight, lifelong Lutherans and people with loads of religious trauma who have found this church to be a safe place to work that out on their own terms.

AND- Christian church or religion at all is not at all the only place to build community and make meaning, so wherever you end up doing that, we wish you power and joy. These days are much too cruel to face them alone.

DM us with any other Qs you might have about attending if you’re wanting to visit our church but having barriers!

A very special opening reception last night 🐚🪡🧵🌼🐌 for @chicagotextilecenter and an artist talk with @hopeless_hope . So inspiring to hear from Hope about the importance of cultivating art practices and spaces that allow room for experimentation, slowness, expression, and imperfection rather than the hustle, presentation, and perfection that often feels demanded.

Thank you to every single artist who contributed your beautiful, thoughtful work and every volunteer who made the night so welcoming and smooth- it’s a huge labor of love to turn this space into an art gallery and host public events here for the sake of creativity and connection, and we hope all who came through the event left feeling that and feeling inspired!!! ❤️‍🔥 taken in St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square by @stlukesls

We had a joyful service celebrating the baptism of Luna Mae on September 20th. We also had Pastor Nicolette Faison, Illinois Outreach Director for @faithinplace preach in worship and lead an art workshop during coffee hour. We are grateful for everyone who makes our community so rich, lively, and joyful through the gifts and presence they bring, but last week was a special reminder of the gifts our youngest community members bring! taken in St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square by @stlukesls

Last night some of our community members spent the evening at the annual @careforfriends Power Hope Awards.

They celebrated the work St. Luke’s does with Care for Friends + South Loop Community Table to tackle Chicago’s food, housing and healthcare crises through an all-inclusive approach that provides Chicagoans easy access to critical resources.

Check out their page to learn more about this important work! by @stlukesls

St. Luke’s was well-represented at the installation of Bishop Erik Christensen, with members serving on various planning committees, singing in the choir, serving communion, and more.

Bishop Erik was ordained extra ordinem — outside official church policy – in 2006 and called to our congregation, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Logan Square. He was received onto the ELCA roster in 2010 after the church decided in 2009 to allow partnered LGBTQ+ ministers onto the roster. He served as our pastor until 2017.

From 2017 to 2024, he served as pastor to the community and director of strategic initiatives at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, one of seven ELCA seminaries. From 2024 until his election as bishop, he served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Evanston. We pray God’s blessings on Bishop Erik’s new ministry and are so proud and grateful to be part of his story and have him be part of ours. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 taken in St. James Cathedral, Chicago by @stlukesls

What does radical love of one’s neighbor look like in our day and age?

Join St. Luke’s on Sunday, September 27, from 12:00-1:30p for a special event featuring Amar Peterman, author of Becoming Neighbors: The Common Good Made Local.

12:00 Potluck lunch — please bring something to share!
12:30 Conversation and Q&A with Amar Peterman
Books will be available following the event

RSVP to join us at the link in our b!o, we would love to see you and share these ideas with you over a meal 🩵

About the book: In Becoming Neighbors, Amar Peterman explores how the common good can be cultivated through the practice of neighbor love. And he encourages Christians to join their neighbors at what he calls “the shared table”—a space where communities gather across differences to work towards the flourishing of the whole. Peterman encourages Christians to sit side by side with their neighbors at the community table, share a meal, engage in mutual listening and learning, and actively commit to each other’s flourishing. taken in St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square by @stlukesls
