This was the first one of these that I watched unfold in real time. Transfixed by the horror as each subsequent post came out, seeing reality perverted against my own eyes by the hour and news cycle. I thought for sure the whole thing would crumble. It deeply affected me.

I came in person to Minneapolis to the spot where Alex Pretti was murdered. Tears streamed in uncontrolled waves for me at the memorial, sometimes heavy, but slightly less at each subsequent sites: Renee Good, George Floyd and the Whipple building. A whole MN tour unfortunately. I cried not just for the deaths, which are tragedies, but for the collective response to them and the potential for change that can rise from them.

At each site I noticed that I was touched by strangers, like physically touched. Consolidating pats on the arm, friendly hand shakes, and a fist bump with Maestro the caretaker. The most profound was at the Federal building, after talking at length with one front line fighter. She explained with some confidence that the tide is in fact turning and offered a long, meaningful ‘there is hope’ hug.

It feels like it is still getting worse and there is way too much suffering. I’m more awake, more horrified, and ever so slightly more hopeful. by @stoke.log
