Gorsh, I’m so tied up with 7th House’s social media that I’m barely on my own account these days. Hope everyone is hanging in there…good enuff for bad times. I’ve got like a year’s worth of trailers I haven’t shared—gonna catch up! Here’s one I just did that’s my favorite in a while. Incredibly fun to cut and I’m super excited for this one! (Pretty happy with the synopsis I wrote too)

SUNDAY JULY 5! 7th House is proud to present a rare screening of iconoclastic independent filmmaker Jon Jost’s ANGEL CITY (1976), a slyly satirical and irreverently subversive excursion through the sun-soaked fantasies and hot-asphalt realities of La La Land. 🌴

Long before Doc Sportello wandered through Pynchon’s pages, ANGEL CITY’s Frank Goya was already on the case, ambling a similarly bleary path through the overlapping worlds of power, paranoia, and California dreamin’. Part detective fiction, part essay-film, part LA postcard, and wholly playful in its experimental approach, Jost’s meta-mystery follows its laid-back hippie sleuth, armed with a camera, a stack of polaroids, and an “okay, man” outlook, through a landscape of media moguls, Hollywood operators, corporate intrigue, and manufactured facades. Hired to investigate the death of a powerful media mogul’s wife, Goya’s search gradually expands into something far larger: an irreverent excavation of the systems, myths, and power structures underlying the city itself. Bye Bud 💔 Heartbroken to learn of Bud Cort’s passing. Harold & Maude is my immovable favorite film, ever since seeing it at far too young an age. It is deep in my DNA and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of it in some way. It was the first thing I’d watched as a kid that I realized was a film, not a movie — and everything I ever learned about editing came from it. And of course, as a kid who already battled depression at a young age in a troubled home where I often felt invisible, Harold and Bud made me feel seen — and Maude let me know that there was more to life than what I was enduring. I was lucky enough to get to meet Cort, by chance (at Squaresville!) and share all of the above with him and he was so gracious and genuinely touched. Deeply grateful…deeply saddened. Hi ho, it’s been a good while since I’ve cut a trailer for @7th___house, and even longer since I’ve shared any here. Here’s what I cut for tonight’s program at @philosophical_research_society, co-presented by @jjstratford and @lafilmforum, of recent works by the great @ceceliacondit — including the premiere of two brand new works.

This only took about an hour thanks to Cecelia’s ceaselessly striking (say that 10x fast) films. Please hit me up if you’d like to join us this evening for this very special program! taken in The Philosophical Research Society by @stonefolk
