POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This weekend, I had fun leading a storytime @fablongbeach at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, sharing My Ông Ngoại’s Garden with children and families. It was rewarding to introduce young readers to fruits like rambutan and dragon fruit.

One of the highlights was meeting fellow authors, local artists, educators, and nonprofits, all working to champion AAPI stories in their own ways.

This festival was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together around books, culture, and belonging. Grassroots efforts like this create space for AAPI voices to be celebrated and inspire the next generation of readers.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible. I left the event feeling grateful, inspired, and even more motivated on my self-publishing journey. 📚

I was on Little Saigon TV this past spring to promote the City of Garden Grove’s Tet Lunar New Year Festival ✨ My interview is live on YouTube, and I’m dropping an exclusive sneak peek at this year’s book releases.

Here is a glimpse of what I’m working on
Cal and Dan’s Guide to Vietnam: Two brothers explore Vietnam for the first time! It features a hard-of-hearing character named Dan who was inspired directly by my youngest son and is all about sounds, sights and signs.

My Bà Nội’s Garden– A sweet story about Vietnamese food and culture, and a young girl discovering the joy of her grandmother’s veggie garden.

I’m incredibly passionate about creating memorable stories where our kiddos can see their own families and identities reflected. And I can’t wait to bring these stories to you!

Also, summer book production is in full swing with @qbnstudios so stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes illustrations!

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the @occhildrensbookfest this weekend. The idea for our Viet Corner started two years ago when @gemmas.library, @alicetrinhwrites, and @storytimewithcal participated in the festival and envisioned a fun space where families and book readers could discover Vietnamese children’s books.

This year, we made that dream a reality. It was special to make a space that celebrates our stories, culture, and voices in children’s literature alongside @heydaisyd who debuted her first children’s book called, ‘The Girl and the Water Buffalo.”

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported our work. We are showing the next generation what it means to amplify meaningful stories.

If you believe in making space for more diverse stories, follow and share your favorite authors in the comments.

Day 2 of the Alibaba CoCreate conference was exciting on so many levels! It was an incredible space to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, ranging from early-stage founders and manufacturers to investors.

I gained so many valuable insights into the business world and received an amazing glimpse into the art of the pitch. Out of 30,000 applicants, 20 finalists had only 90 seconds to sell their business ideas to a panel of judges. It was inspiring to see what they brought to the stage, featuring innovations from a collapsible bike helmet and double-sided drinkware to a compact 3D printer, plant sensors, and more. I am so proud of every single one of them.

I am also deeply grateful to have connected with other founders and creatives like @goldiecylon, @menminmade, @realcozyfoods, @gethoopdee, and more.

Thank you to Alibaba for bringing the business community together in such a meaningful way.

Please drop your CoCreate highlights below in the comments!

Day 1 of the Alibaba CoCreate conference exceeded my expectations. I met so many incredible suppliers/manufacturers and heard from inspiring business founders like @glo.guide and @barrypoznick. I also made new connections with fellow entrepreneurs like @gethoopdee and @iconicfashionfigure, each on their own unique journey.
Events like this fuel my entrepreneurial soul and validate the path I am on in bringing more children’s book stories to life.
Thank you @alibaba.com_official for bringing this conference to Los Angeles!

I’m teaming up with my amazing illustrator at @QBNStudios for my next story: My Bà Nội’s Garden!
This story highlights the relationship between Bà Nội (paternal grandmother) and her curious granddaughter, Hanh. It has been incredibly meaningful to weave together memories of Vietnamese ingredients, cooking in the kitchen, and family heritage into my latest work.

I hope Hanh’s garden journey will brings you and your family much joy when it is released this fall! 📖
