We all know dogs yawn when they're sleepy… but did you know that's not always the reason? 🤔

Yawning can sometimes be linked to stress, uncertainty, excitement or feeling overwhelmed.

It's one of those little behaviours we often overlook, but it can tell us something about how our dogs are feeling. ❤️

The important thing? Context matters!

One yawn doesn't automatically mean your dog is stressed. Pay attention to what's happening around them and what the rest of their body language is telling you.

And sometimes… they're genuinely just tired of listening to us. 😂🐕

💬 Have you ever noticed your dog yawning in an unusual situation?

📌 Save this post for later and share it with another dog lover!

Apparently, I'm not walking Garmin… he's supervising me. 😂🐾

Every few seconds, he looks back to make sure I'm still following. 👀

But did you know this behaviour is often called checking in?

Dogs may look back at their humans to keep track of where they are, seek guidance or simply see what's happening around them.

It's one of those little behaviours that can tell us a lot when we pay attention to their body language. ❤️

As for Garmin? I'm pretty sure he's just making sure his employee isn't slacking. 🤣

Does your dog check in with you on walks, or just disappear into their own little world? 👀🐕

Imagine going for a walk and someone keeps dragging you away every time you try to read something interesting. 😂

That's probably how our dogs feel when we rush them past every interesting smell!

Sniffing isn't just a distraction. It's how dogs explore, gather information and engage their brains. 🧠🐾

So sometimes, a slower walk with plenty of sniffing can be more enriching than a long walk with no time to explore.

Does your dog have that ONE spot they absolutely must investigate every single time? 👀😂

🐾 UNPOPULAR DOG OPINION 👀

A tired dog isn't always a happy dog.

Sometimes 20 minutes of sniffing, exploring and using their brain can be more fulfilling than an hour of just walking.

Dogs don't only need exercise. They need experiences! 🌿🐕

💬 What does YOUR dog enjoy more - running around or sniffing absolutely everything? 😂

Two happy faces, two different personalities. 🐾💚

One thing I find fascinating about dogs is how differently they experience the world, even when sharing the same adventure.

Just like us, every dog has their own personality, preferences and way of communicating.

And that's what makes understanding them so interesting. 🐕❤️

Is your dog really being stubborn? 👀🐾

Sometimes we ask our dogs to do something and they simply don't listen.

But what if they're not being stubborn at all?

Maybe they're confused, distracted, overwhelmed or simply haven't understood what we're asking.

Dogs don't see the world the way we do, and behaviour is often their way of communicating something.

Before asking "Why won't my dog listen?"
Try asking "What is my dog trying to tell me?" 💚

A little understanding can make a big difference. 🐾

Did you know? 🐾💚

Dogs communicate so much through their body language, even in the quietest moments.

A relaxed body, soft eyes and choosing to stay close can all be signs that a dog feels comfortable and safe! ❤️

Sometimes the most beautiful part of building a bond with a dog is learning to understand what they're telling us without a single word.

Little moments, big trust 🐾

Hey everyone! 👋🐾

I'm Petra, the face behind STR8.K9, and this fluffy black gentleman next to me is Garmin, my Bohemian Shepherd 🐕🖤

Ever since I was a little kid, wherever I went, if there was a dog or pretty much any other animal around, that's exactly where you'd find me! 😅 I honestly didn't care much about the humans around me when there were animals to spend time with ❤️

Over the years, that love has grown into something much more than just loving dogs. I've become genuinely fascinated by their behaviour, how they communicate, how they think and how much we can learn from them 🍀

I've completed multiple courses in dog walking, dog training and other canine-related subjects, and I'm currently continuing my studies, exploring canine behaviour on a much deeper level.

The more I learn, the more I realise how fascinating dogs really are, and how much there is that we, as humans, often don't even realise or understand about them.

STR8.K9 is my little journey of turning something I genuinely love into something meaningful.

I'm starting small, learning along the way and hoping to share a little bit of everything here - dogs, behaviour, everyday adventures, things I've learned and the occasional helping paw. 🐾

Welcome to our journey! 🐾💚
