This has been a hard year for our community. We’ve fought, we’ve advocated, and we’ve pushed for the safer streets we deserve. On October 24th, we’re showing Greater Boston how we CELEBRATE πŸŽ‰

Tour de Streets 2026 is going to be incredibly special. Alongside honoring the life and spirit of Bob Zeeb, we are celebrating the incredible legacy of our beloved team member, Louisa Gag. Together with their families, we gather to turn memory into momentum, honoring their lives by celebrating the street-safety wins they fought so hard to achieve.

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, built for everyone who refuses to accept traffic violence as β€œjust the price of living in a city.” We are here to build long-lasting community, culture, and above all a movement to make our streets safe for everyone!

🚲 A safer Boston is a more connected Boston!

This morning, I joined Carmen Blyden from Bikes Not Bombs, and members from Mattapan Food and Fitness, LivableStreets Alliance, Boston Cyclist Union and other incredible advocates to ride the brand-new Cummings Highway path and its newly protected bike lane.

These projects are about more than pavement and paint. They’re about creating safer streets, connecting our neighborhoods, and making sure people have real options to get around, whether they’re biking, walking, taking the bus, or driving.

Multimodal transportation means building a Boston that works for everyone. I’m proud to stand alongside the organizations and residents pushing us toward a safer, healthier, and more accessible city.

🚌 Last week, we hit the Route 28 bus stops to talk with riders about their experiences!
Bus riders are often left out of the public meetings and planning processes that shape their daily commutes. So, sometimes the best way to hear their voices is to meet them where they are β€” at the bus stop.
🚏 If we want streets that work for everyone, we need to make space for the people who are too often missing from the conversation. taken in Mattapan Square by @streetsboston

⚠️ October marks National Pedestrian Safety Month, a dedicated time to highlight the safety of vulnerable road users, raise awareness, and advocate for targeted infrastructure improvements across our communities. In line with this observance, we are sharing the stats for our 2025 fatal pedestrian crash report.

⚠️ In 2025 alone, 13 communities recorded multiple pedestrian crash deaths, led by Boston (8), Springfield (6), and Holyoke, Lowell, West Springfield, and Worcester (3 each).

⚠️ A deeper five-year trend analysis highlights recurring danger zones. Boston, Springfield, and Brockton have consistently recorded at least 2 pedestrian crash fatalities every single year over the five-year period spanning 2021 through 2025.

⚠️ These findings underscore that pedestrian fatalities are preventable, localized, and concentrated. Addressing these fatal crash corridors requires immediate implementation of proven Vision Zero strategies:

-Speed management and calming infrastructure
-Improved crosswalk visibility and signal timing (such as Leading Pedestrian Intervals)
-Targeted road redesigns in persistent high-crash municipalities

October is Pedestrian Safety Month. While national trends show progress in road safety, Massachusetts is moving backward. 🚨

We cannot accept rising pedestrian fatalities as an inevitable cost of transportation. It’s time for:
 * Statewide policy changes
 * Lower speed limits in residential areas
 * Dedicated funding for walkability and safe crossings

This must stop. πŸ›‘

Join us in demanding actionable street design changes from local and state leaders.

Upcoming Events:
 * Boston Ride for Your Life: October 25 (Hosted by @rideforyourlifeorg)
 * State House Vision Zero Day: November 10 @massbike @familiesforsafestreets @streetsboston @bostoncyclistsunion @sidneys_rainbows

Vision Zero is the goal of having zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries on our streets. Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville all committed to Vision Zero around 10 years ago, and LivableStreets has been working with each city since then to achieve this goal.

If you want to power our work for safe streets in the Boston area, donate to our annual fundraiser Tour De Streets, help us reach our of goal of raising 60k!! Use the link in bio to donate or register now!
