What a phenomenal night at Bernie Grant! 300 performers came together for the first time to smash routines they’ve spent 6 months perfecting. Our PAC (Performing Arts Club) completely tied the show together with their incredible acting pieces—we couldn’t be prouder! 🥹💛 Take a look at what our community had to say ❤️ by @streetzahead

"Through theatre, we can explore subjects we often avoid in everyday life - including grief and loss - without telling a child how they should feel." Read Elizabeth's new article in Fighting Knifecrime Magazine. The article expresses how theatre productions allows children to see difficult stories play out and resonate with watching a character find their way through. Our latest Hip Hop theatre production, Jade & The Beanstalk, follows a young neurodivergent girl who uses the power of her imagination to navigate grief and loss, blending hip hop, dance, rap and storytelling to explore themes of family, resilience, belonging and hope. Our last few tickets are available via the link in our bio 📍 Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Tottenham 🗓️ 15th & 16th October, 7pm 🎟️£10.78 per ticket by @streetzahead

What inspired Jade & The Beanstalk? Hear from Elizabeth Lahav, CEO of Streetz Ahead and writer of our brand new play. There are last few tickets available, so click the link in our bio to secure your spot! "From an early age, I wanted to experience dance as a way to be creative, express myself and build confidence, without needing exams or grades. That belief has always been at the heart of Streetz Ahead: giving young people the chance to find their own voice through dance and experience of performing. Thirty years on, Jade and the Beanstalk is our third professional production funded by Arts Council England. This story comes from somewhere personal. As a trained dancer and the eldest child in a busy family, with divisions at home and experiences of unexpected loss, I often turned to imagination, dance and performance to make sense of things. They gave me confidence, hope and strength when words were harder to find. Becoming a dance movement psychotherapist deepened my understanding of how closely the mind and body are connected, and how feelings can be expressed through movement before we can put them into words. Jade uses stories to process her loss, creating adventures that help her explore feelings she cannot always explain. Through hip hop theatre, I wanted to share a message of grief, hope and resilience." by @streetzahead

We were delighted to welcome David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, to see some of the work happening across Streetz Ahead. David joined us at Bernie Grant Arts Centre, meeting our CEO Elizabeth Lahav and the talented cast of Jade & the Beanstalk during rehearsals. David also visited us at Devonshire Hill Primary School, where he met our Schools Development Officer William Jones, as well as the school’s Head Boy, Head Girl and Head Teacher. During the visit, David spoke about the importance of dance and theatre and the need to make arts opportunities more accessible to children and young people. A huge thank you to David for taking the time to visit, meet our young people and team, and see our work in action!
