CAREER FAIR TIPS
FROM A 25 UNDER 25 ENGINEER

Career fair season is around the corner and it is more than showing up with a resume!

Here are 5 tips I’ve learned from navigating career fairs, internships, and professional spaces.

Your next opportunity could start with one conversation.

#striv #nsbe #careerfair #blackengineers #everydayengineering

Tip 1: KNOW WHO YOU WANT TO SPEAK TO

Do your research before the fair. Find the companies that interest you, learn what they do, and take note of the opportunities you’re interested in.

Walk in with a game plan.

Tip 2: YOUR EXPERIENCE MATTERS

Never had an internship? That doesn’t mean you don’t have experience. Leadership, service, athletics, organizations, jobs, and class projects can all build valuable skills.

Know what you’ve done and what it taught you.

Tip 3: DON’T JUST RECITE YOUR RESUME

Recruiters can already read what’s on the page. Use the conversation to explain what you learned, the impact you made, and how your experiences have shaped you.

Give them something the resume can’t.

Tip 4: ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

The career fair isn’t only about them learning about you. Ask about their projects, opportunities, culture, and experiences within the company.

Don’t just look for a job. Build a connection.

Extra Tip: BE CONFIDENT & FOLLOW UP

Walk in confident in who you are and what you bring to the table. Be yourself, stay present, and don’t overthink every conversation.

Before you leave, get their contact information or connect on LinkedIn and follow up while the conversation is still fresh.

Confidence gets you in the conversation. Following up keeps you connected. by @strivwitap

what does sustainability mean to you ?

STRIVing for a Sustainable Built Environment 🌱🏗️

Spend the day with me as a Civil Engineer student attending the DC Sustainability summit 2026

The summit shifted my perspective on what sustainability looks like beyond the classroom.

From decarbonization and sustainability certifications to residential practices and sustainable material.

The most important message: Sustainability isn’t an afterthought

Civil Engineers build communities that have impacts for generations. Not only how we build, but how can we build better.

Sometimes progression starts with a new perspective.

Keep STRIVing

Come with me on a weekend in the life for the B.E.Y.A Conference!

This year I also had the chance to participate in the Advancing Minorities in Engineering competition where we had to solve the problem statement of “How might we design innovative, human-centered solutions that leverage emerging technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, data science, VR, autonomous systems, advanced energy systems, and sustainability practices to address complex societal and environmental challenges, overcome barriers to industry and government progress, OR create new opportunities by disrupting existing markets?”

This was an amazing experience that highlights the success happening with Baltimore in the tech realm! Definitely will be attending next year!
