I was out on a walk the other night and I stopped to look at the sky over the city; it was a cool night and rain was coming. For the first time in a VERY long time, I thought to myself, this is GREAT soccer weather. I hadn’t really had a thought about my playing days in a long time but when that thought emerged my body felt excited, the way it used to when I was about to play and I could smell the rain in the air. Almost 20 years since my last college game and my brain and body still have that feeling and association imprinted.

I loved playing on a cool evening. I really loved playing in the rain which is interesting because playing in the rain was actually much more difficult- you had to judge passes much differently, account for the ball skipping, moving faster or even stopping dead in a puddle. It was slippery and dirty and gritty… and I loved it. I always felt like a gritty player so this weather felt like I owned it a bit. I always played really well on those cold and/or rainy nights when it could have been really easy (and understandable) to be worried about performing in those conditions.

I know now that it had nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with how my thoughts about playing in that type of weather created a mindset and a story line for my body to follow: this is my weather, I will play well. The impact those thoughts had on how my nervous system stayed regulated and even perceived the upcoming threats on the field was the difference maker.

I share stories like this with my athletes to help them understand that mindset is a practice and it’s something they are in complete control of; they are the authors of they story the tell themselves… so make it a good one. by @strongmindsmartbody

…it can actually be FUN.

✅ We play games that train focus
✅ Use breathing hacks that calm nerves in seconds
✅ Build confidence through challenges
✅ Learn how to bounce back with mental resets

This isn’t therapy. It’s training the mind just like the body — and when it’s done right, athletes want to come back for more.

🎯 Stronger minds. Better performances. More joy in sport.

I’ve made it my mission to shine a light on the anxiety kids feel while playing youth sports.

We often get confused about the difference between nerves and anxiety.

❓What’s “normal?”

❓Why do some kids feel nerves more intense than others?

❓Is there anything that can be done to help a young athlete or is this just “part of the game” ?

I can help bring clarity and a sense of control over the nerves.

Contact me to learn more.

Mindful Movement is an essential part of wellness. For me, bringing intentionality to my workouts - or any activity really - exponentially increases the output and effectiveness. When we focus on the task at hand it brings things into focus and releases unnecessary stress and tension preventing us from reaching our full potential. Sometimes this focus starts with just a single intentional breath.

How can you bring mindfulness into your daily activity?

Shout out to @lagree.collective for creating a space that brings movement and mindfulness together. by @strongmindsmartbody

I’ve been the “official” unofficial performance coach for my son’s hockey team this season. My husband is the coach so there’s always opportunity to talk through coaching strategy. One message that was presented to the boys at the start of the season was that the only thing that matters is: ATTITUDE & EFFORT.

💥If you bring a good attitude and give it your all every practice or game, the rest will fall into place.

💥By focusing on simple things that the boys can control every day gave them not only an opportunity to succeed every day- even on days when they lost- but it became an expectation they could hold each other to that empowered them.

💥It was a familiar message they could come back to after tough days to let them know that all they had to do to bounce back was bring good attitude and effort.

This has paid off tremendously for this group.

When they were moved up a whole age group half way through the season they had moments of doubt playing against older and bigger kids. What would they bring to the table?

ATTITUDE & EFFORT

When they went down 3 goals in the first period of the first game of the second round of playoffs. What did they rely on to come back to tie it?

ATTITUDE & EFFORT

When they lost that game in the final 14 seconds and were put into a “win or go home” situation for the next game… what did they come back to?

ATTITUDE & EFFORT

You get the drift. Don’t over complicate things for youth athletes. They won’t always get the result they want but if they can say that they brought a good attitude and worked hard- they can still leave proud.

I’m excited to see these kids head to the finals knowing they’ve already won in so many ways. by @strongmindsmartbody

Fitness has always been a passion of mine. The mental and physical challenge that movement can pose is different for everyone which is why fitness is not a one size fits all. I’ve always loved leading people through that challenge to unlock the inner strength they never knew they had.

I’m so excited to back in the studio (@lagree.collective) teaching and soon, back on the field training athletes. by @strongmindsmartbody
