POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We are pleased to announce our 2026 programme, expanding on the theme In Search of Common Ground and continuing to consider the role of difference in building solidarities within contemporary Britain and beyond.

Launched in 2025, In Search of Common Ground marked our 10th anniversary. The programme returned to Professor Stuart Hall’s concept of cultural identity to examine how we might broaden the intellectual and creative scope of social justice movements today. In 2026, the programme works through this question across several arenas at the forefront of global politics.

Opening with the 9th Annual Stuart Hall Public Conversation at @conwayhall on Saturday 23rd May 2026, the programme welcomes cultural theorist and poet Fred Moten as the keynote speaker of our flagship event. Tickets are on sale now.

Our Reading the Crisis online conversation series returns for its third year. Taking place from June to November in a newly expanded format, the series features six in-depth engagements with economics, technology, democracy, migration, culture and climate, hosted by Aasiya Lodhi and K Biswas (@bizk500).

The Living Archives podcast will also return later this year, featuring intergenerational conversations with six diasporic artists in the UK, produced in partnership with @icf__

AGMP Concerts presents NU CIVILISATION ORCHESTRA: THE STUART HALL PROJECT at Union Chapel, London on Monday 9th November 2026.

Tickets available now at: agmp.co.uk

Celebrating 100 years since the birth of jazz legend Miles Davis, Tomorrow’s Warriors presents a remarkable evening bringing together live music, film and cultural history.

Led by Peter Edwards, a five-piece Nu Civilisation Orchestra Ensemble, featuring acclaimed trumpeter Mark Kavuma, will perform the music of Miles Davis live alongside a screening of John Akomfrah’s celebrated documentary The Stuart Hall Project.

Released in 2013, the film explores the life and ideas of Stuart Hall, the pioneering cultural theorist and one of the most influential voices in British Cultural Studies. Through archive footage and Hall’s own reflections, it examines identity, race, belonging and the changing cultural landscape of Britain.

The music of Miles Davis provides a powerful soundtrack to Hall’s story, reflecting the changing times and ideas that shaped his life.

Performed live by the Nu Civilisation Orchestra Ensemble, the music becomes an integral part of the film, creating a unique dialogue between jazz, cinema and cultural history.

A special evening celebrating two extraordinary figures whose influence continues to resonate today.

How does the far right build power, and how can young people organise against it?

The British Jamaican activist and thinker Stuart Hall explored how moments of crisis are often used to build support for right-wing ideas. Writing about the rise of Thatcherism and the National Front in 1979, he argued: “The ‘swing to the Right’ is not a reflection of the crisis: it is itself a response to the crisis.” For Hall, fascism emerges through the coming together of different political and social forces.

Using Hall’s ideas, this workshop will explore the rise of the far right in Britain today. We’ll look at how fear and racism are used to divide people, the role played by institutions like the state, the police and the media in mainstreaming these ideas, and the tactics used by far-right groups. Together, we’ll consider how young people can recognise, challenge and organise against these forces.

The session will combine discussion, accessible reading and writing with practical, interactive activities.

This session is brought to you by the forces of TAA and @stuarthallfoundation. Name a more iconic duo??? by @stuarthallfoundation
