Three campuses. Over 350 college majors. One day of exploration, opportunity, and community!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of taking an amazing group of Boston Public Schools students on our State School College Tour, visiting UMass Amherst, Worcester State University, and Framingham State University! We love watching students walk onto a college campus, ask thoughtful questions, connect with their peers, and begin to envision what their futures could look like.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do for a young person is expand their understanding of what’s possible.

I’m incredibly grateful to our team, our university partners, and, most importantly, the amazing young people who made yesterday so special. @fred02136 @coachshantell and our @studentsupportbps squad

And we’re not slowing down! Next stop: Rhode Island! We’re looking forward to exploring another group of colleges and universities and continuing to open doors for our students on 11/11. by @studentsupportbps

Sunday at 6-WON-7 🏀❤️

a gym full of young people choosing to spend their Sunday learning, competing, building relationships, and being kids!

A huge thank you to Coach John “Boo” Rice @benzena22 for pouring into our young men and leading today’s high school basketball session. We had nearly 30 young men show up today, and the energy was everything!

Much love and appreciation to our coaches, volunteers, families, and everyone who continues to make these Sundays possible. What we’re building is beyond the games.

Can’t wait to share who will be joining us as next Sunday’s special guest coach! Stay tuned! 👀🏀 by @studentsupportbps

College application season is here and sometimes the hardest part is simply getting the words on the page.

Next week, our Opportunity Lab College Essay Nights will give BPS seniors a virtual space to slow down, think, write, revise, and get real time support from college access staff.

Tuesday, October 6 | 7:00–9:00 PM
Thursday, October 8 | 8:00–10:00 PM

Students can get help with personal statements, brainstorming, revisions, supplemental essays, and strengthening their story before they hit submit.

This is free for BPS seniors because access to strong college guidance should never depend on who can afford private support. Sometimes one essay, one conversation, or one person helping a student find their voice can make all the difference. by @studentsupportbps

@bostonschools is grateful for an inspiring day of giving back at the AJ Dybantsa School Giveback Event!

The AJ Dybantsa School Giveback Event brought together BPS students, educators, school leaders, volunteers and community partners September 19 for a day focused on strengthening our classrooms and celebrating our school communities.

From distributing classroom supplies to a friendly rock-paper-scissors competition for AJ's jersey and slides, there was plenty of energy and community spirit!

Thank you to @aj.dybantsa, the 2026 No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick, the AJ Dybantsa Foundation, World Vision, ISlide, Inc., the BPS Division of Student Support and all our school and community partners for supporting BPS students and classrooms. This recognition means a lot to me but for reasons much bigger than having my name on an award.
I’m incredibly grateful to Chess for Peace and Promoting Conflict Resolution (PCR Inc.) for recognizing the work of 6-WON-7 and, more importantly, for believing in the power of young people, community, and creating spaces where connection can lead to something greater.

My name may be engraved on the award, but this recognition belongs to a team. For 115 Sundays, people have made a choice to show up for our young people.

Coaches. Staff. Volunteers. Community partners. Families. School leaders. Mentors. People who could have spent their Sundays anywhere else, but instead chose to open gyms, teach chess, coach sports, provide academic support, create wellness opportunities, serve families, resolve conflicts, build relationships, and simply make sure young people had somewhere positive to belong.

That is 6-WON-7.

And 115 Sundays later, we are still opening those doors.

I am especially thankful to Chess for Peace/PCR Inc. because their commitment to chess, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and peaceful problem-solving represents so much of what we want young people to carry with them beyond our programs. Sports and enrichment may bring young people through the door, but relationships, belonging, mentorship, and opportunity are what we hope they take with them.
The award has one name on it. The work has hundreds.

Thank you to everyone who has given us a Sunday.

115 Sundays….and we’re not finished.

For many of our student athletes, the dream of playing at the next level is real. But talent alone is not enough. Students and families also need access to the right information, guidance, and people who can help them navigate the college process.

That is why Boston Public Schools Athletics is hosting an NCAA Workshop on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 PM.

This virtual session is designed to help students and families better understand the road from high school athletics to college, including:

* NCAA eligibility and required courses
* NCAA ID and registration
* Division I, II, III and JUCO pathways
* Scholarships and financial aid considerations
* SAT scores and academic requirements
* The college recruitment process
* NCAA eligibility standards and the sliding scale

College can be complicated, especially for families navigating admissions, athletics, eligibility, financial aid, and recruitment at the same time. Our responsibility is to make sure students are not left trying to figure that out on their own.

Athletics can open doors, but we have to make sure our young people are academically prepared, informed, and positioned to walk through those doors when the opportunity comes.

I encourage our BPS student athletes all ages .coaches, and families to join us.
