Last night we had a conversation with some of our alums about black males and College and their experience so far. We appreciate them, we are proud of them and we will continue to uplift them in this stage of their journey. The young folks watching please do not ignore their powerful words.

Great coaching goes beyond the game. Today at 6-WON-7 Sundays, we had the pleasure of welcoming Coach Jonathan Mandeldove of Fitchburg State University, a former UConn Division I basketball player, for our Coach’s Highlight Series. Our young people had an opportunity to develop their skills, compete, learn, and connect with someone who understands what it takes to succeed at the next level. This is why we continue to build these spaces. Basketball brings our students into the gym, but mentorship, relationships, and opportunity are what make the experience meaningful. A special thank you to @coachjmandeldove Coach Mandelove for investing his time and experience in our young people. 6-WON-7

Excited to kick off Year Two of Foundations, our elementary sports initiative designed to give BPS students an earlier and more intentional entry point into athletics. This year, we are building on the momentum with a strong kickoff, expanded seasonal opportunities, and regional teams that will help more students participate, compete, build confidence, and feel connected to their school community. Across the year, students will have opportunities in basketball, futsal, flag football, volleyball, and track, with a continued focus on skill development, teamwork, belonging, and healthy competition. We are especially grateful for the amazing school leaders, coaches, Athletics team, community partners, and college partners who continue to help us build this the right way. Foundations is growing because so many people believe our youngest students deserve access to high quality sports experiences early. BPS families: ask your child’s school about Foundations and how your student can get involved this year. Year Two is here. Let’s go.

Three campuses. Over 350 college majors. One day of exploration, opportunity, and community! Yesterday, we had the privilege of taking an amazing group of Boston Public Schools students on our State School College Tour, visiting UMass Amherst, Worcester State University, and Framingham State University! We love watching students walk onto a college campus, ask thoughtful questions, connect with their peers, and begin to envision what their futures could look like. Sometimes the most important thing we can do for a young person is expand their understanding of what’s possible. I’m incredibly grateful to our team, our university partners, and, most importantly, the amazing young people who made yesterday so special. @fred02136 @coachshantell and our @studentsupportbps squad And we’re not slowing down! Next stop: Rhode Island! We’re looking forward to exploring another group of colleges and universities and continuing to open doors for our students on 11/11.

6-WON-7 Sundays. Punching above our weight for 116 Sundays. “Every young person deserves three things: someone who believes in them, somewhere they belong, and something meaningful to work toward.“

College application season is here and sometimes the hardest part is simply getting the words on the page. Next week, our Opportunity Lab College Essay Nights will give BPS seniors a virtual space to slow down, think, write, revise, and get real time support from college access staff. Tuesday, October 6 | 7:00–9:00 PM Thursday, October 8 | 8:00–10:00 PM Students can get help with personal statements, brainstorming, revisions, supplemental essays, and strengthening their story before they hit submit. This is free for BPS seniors because access to strong college guidance should never depend on who can afford private support. Sometimes one essay, one conversation, or one person helping a student find their voice can make all the difference.
