🧸 A clear sleep space is a safer sleep space.

This October, Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart is sharing Cribs for Kids® safe-sleep guidance to help families and caregivers create safer sleep environments for babies. 👶💙

Place baby on their back in a safety-approved crib, bassinet or play yard with a firm, flat sleep surface and only a fitted sheet.

🚫 Keep loose blankets, pillows, crib bumpers, wedges, toys and stuffed animals out of the sleep space. These items can increase the risk of suffocation and other sleep-related infant deaths.

Every sleep counts. Learn more at the link in our bio.

🎃👻 Spooky slime and Halloween smiles! 🧡

Our Child Life team brought some Halloween magic to the playroom with a Spooky Slime Party for our patients and families! 🧪✨ From squishy, stretchy slime to spooky smiles, it was a fun-filled opportunity for children to get creative, play and enjoy a little seasonal fun during their hospital stay. 🎨💚

At Studer Family Children’s Hospital, we believe that play is an important part of a child’s hospital experience. 💜 We strive to create opportunities for joy, connection and positive experiences for children and families, even when they’re away from home.

🦽💜 October is National Physical Therapy Month!

For school-age children, movement is an important part of learning, playing and becoming more independent. At Studer Family Children’s Hospital, pediatric physical therapists help children develop gross motor skills—including posture, core strength, balance, walking and coordination. 🤸

Through personalized activities and exercises, therapists work with children and families toward goals that support school, play and everyday routines.

If you have concerns about your child’s movement, balance, coordination or recovery from an injury, talk with their healthcare provider. A physician referral is required for pediatric rehabilitation services.

This month, we celebrate the physical therapists who help children move, play and participate more fully in everyday life. 💜

💙 Through the storm, our care teams were there. ⛈️

When Hurricane Isaias moved across the Florida Panhandle, care teams at Studer Family Children's Hospital and Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals remained by their patients' sides, even when it meant staying overnight to avoid dangerous conditions outside.

🏥 From NICU nurses and physicians to respiratory therapists, environmental services, facilities, security, and food and nutrition teams, our associates worked together to keep patients safe and cared for throughout the storm.

🙏 To every associate who cared for patients during the storm and everyone helping our communities recover: Thank you. Your dedication and compassion make a difference. A special thank you to the Nemours team as well!

We're also happy to share that all Ascension Sacred Heart care sites across Northwest Florida have returned to normal operations! Our care teams are reaching out to reschedule appointments affected by storm-related closures and expanding access to care as needed. 🌤️

💙 No matter the weather, caring for our community remains at the heart of what we do.

💙 During National Children’s Health Month, Studer Family Children’s Hospital is reminding families that supporting children’s health starts with everyday habits—and knowing when to ask for support.

🏀 Build healthy routines. Make time for consistent sleep, active play, balanced meals and time together.

🤾 Prioritize preventive care. Keep up with well-child visits and talk with your child’s provider about their growth and development.

🏈 Speak up about changes. Share concerns about your child’s health, mood or behavior with their healthcare provider.

👟 Ask about next steps. Leave each visit knowing what to watch for, when to follow up and who to contact with questions.

Every stage brings new questions. Asking them is an important part of caring for your child. 💙

Ask questions and share concerns—these conversations can help your child’s care team understand their needs and determine the right care.

🙏💙 “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant.” — Luke 12:37

When Hurricane Isaias moved across the Florida Panhandle, Ascension Sacred Heart care teams stood ready at the bedside. 🏥❤️

From Pensacola to Panama City, associates sheltered in place to care for patients through the storm. Nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, environmental services, facilities, security, and food and nutrition teams kept our hospitals running, often setting aside concerns about their own homes and loved ones to be there for patients. 🤝

Vigilance calls for physical readiness along with mental and spiritual alertness. At Ascension Sacred Heart, that readiness is built year-round through emergency planning, training, drills and collaboration with local partners to ensure our teams are prepared when it matters most. ⛈️

As Ascension celebrates Mission Month, we recognize the dedication of our associates who continue #ServingBoldly, responding with compassion, courage and grace when our communities need them most. 💙✨

Thank you to every associate who cared for patients through the storm and every team member helping our communities recover. Your commitment to our Mission makes a difference every day. ❤️ Two women in black scrubs interact in a bright medical office. 🎧🌈 October is Sensory Processing Awareness Month—a time to recognize that sights, sounds, sensations and changes in routine can make healthcare experiences especially challenging for some children.

At Studer Family Children’s Hospital, a new sensory room offers children a quieter space to relax, regulate and regain a sense of comfort during hospital care. 🧩💙

The room is part of the hospital’s broader sensory-friendly support through the Starfish Adaptive Care Program. Because every child experiences the world differently, creating an environment that responds to individual needs can help children feel safer, understood and supported. 💙

👀 Read how the sensory room is helping children feel calm during hospital visits at the link in our bio.

💙 A NICU thank-you more than 30 years in the making.

When Jennifer recently shared a message through Ascension’s Share Your Experience program, she was remembering the care her son, Damion, received more than three decades ago.

Damion was born on Christmas Day in 1994 at just 31½ weeks, weighing less than 3 pounds. He was transferred to Pensacola for specialized neonatal intensive care and spent about two months in the NICU.

“You all held my heart in the palm of your hands and treated us as if we were priceless,” Jennifer shared. “To this day, I talk about you to anyone who’ll still listen.”

This Christmas, Damion will turn 32.

As we wrap up #NICUAwarenessMonth, his story is a reminder of the lasting impact compassionate neonatal care can have on babies and their families.
Thank you to the NICU caregivers, past and present, who continue to support families through some of their most vulnerable moments. Hands form a heart around baby feet. Text: 'A NICU thank-you more than 30 years later.' A quote from Jennifer Sudderth, Damion's mother: 'You all held my heart... treated us as if we were priceless.' Damion received NICU care in 1994. 🎈🧸 During #NICUAwarenessMonth, we recognize families like Ethan’s, whose earliest days of parenthood unfolded in the NICU.

For 135 days, Ethan’s mother experienced early motherhood in a place she never expected. Born at 26 weeks and weighing 1 pound, 9 ounces, Ethan received care at Studer Family Children’s Hospital. His mother found meaningful ways to take part in his care, from feeds and baths to holding him for the first time.

❤️ She celebrated each step forward, including his first bottle, coming off oxygen and eventually having his feeding tube removed.

Today, Ethan is 2 years old and running around at home. 🤾✨

🎀 For his mother, his birthday is a celebration of how far he has come and a reflection on the 135 days she spent beside him, learning how to care for her son in circumstances she never expected.

This NICU Awareness Month, Ethan’s story highlights not only the milestones of a premature baby, but also the experience of a mother finding her place in his care, one day at a time.💫🌟
