This Autumn we are so excited to deliver a range of fun, free events and activities as part of our Back To The Market project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Back To The Market investigates the heritage of Barnstaple Pannier Market, concentrating on three key areas of research: the events around Oswald Mosley’s talk that took place in Barnstaple Pannier Market in 1934, Jeremy Thorpe’s wedding reception that took place in Barnstaple Pannier Market in 1968, and The Beggar’s Opera written in 1728 by John Gay who was born in Barnstaple.

The exhibition (on from 14th November to 19th December) features three commissions by artists Jessica Akerman, Cecily Loveys Jervoise and Graham Taylor, who have been exploring these three areas and contemporary issues revolving around them more broadly.

Join us for the opening event on Saturday 14th November, from 3-5pm, which will feature a performance by Jessica Akerman and our first Soapbox Karaoke session with Graham Taylor.

All activities are FREE to attend and you can apply for a travel bursary to attend by emailing laura@studiokind.org.uk. To book onto events head to www.studiokind.org.uk (or go to the link in our bio) and sign-up for your free space now!

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to deliver a year-long project that provides research opportunities, fun activities for the community, and the chance for people to think more deeply about what the Pannier Market means to our area.

Only one more sleep and you are just in time to claim one of the last remaining tickets to be in the audience for this line up of creative vocal talent. Visit our booking site to be involved!

Added to our star-studded bill of singers and musicians and making a return to the stage for this intimate evening is @stephenrevere . Best known as the creator, songwriter, and lead vocalist of the British indie-rock band Revere.

Formed in the early 2000s, the London-based group was celebrated for its dramatic, orchestral soundscapes blending indie rock with elements of gypsy music, klezmer, post-rock, and gospel.

Fronted by Ellis's powerful baritone vocals, the band earned widespread critical acclaim from media outlets, The Guardian and The Times, and performed at major festivals including Glastonbury and WOMAD before parting ways in late 2016

Stephen also performs with Gabby and Other Animals and brings melodic and harmonic vocals, amid a plethora of a musical instruments, all played with precision, panache and punch! We loved their latest gig at Harta Retreat and look forward to hearing Stephen fill the gallery with his voice and music.

Less than a week to go until our next evening of KIND Voices!

Grizel Luttman-Johnson has a refreshingly unconventional relationship with words. For her, language isn’t always an easy ride, there’s the tricky business of translating an abstract brain into something others can hear. Writing a poem can feel like lying underneath a car, fixing an engine with a cold spanner. But when it works? Magic.

“I’m an artist who also writes some poems. Poetry is the little sister, but they’re in league.”

An experimental artist with a distinctive ear for rhythm, pacing and playful wordcraft, Grizel captivated audiences at our very first KIND Voices evening in the spring. Her performance left us wanting more and she’s exactly the kind of artist you could watch again and again, discovering something new each time.
