In the program of Curatorial Lessons 2026, we want to invite you to the public lecture with Sylvia Sadzinski @sylv_inski on Friday, 25. September at 5 p.m. at ziegel @ziegel_graz_community (Strauchergasse 6, 8020 Graz):

„Queering and Cripping Within Curatorial and Artistic Exhibition Practices“

In this talk, Sylvia Sadzinski explores how queering and cripping function as artistic and curatorial methods. Using case studies from contemporary art exhibitions as well as her own curatorial practice, she highlights approaches that challenge normative structures, amplify marginalized voices, and rethink exhibition frameworks. The talk positions queer and crip curating as political and social correctives, showing how exhibition practices can disrupt entrenched institutional norms and reimagine the museum as a space for world-making and emancipatory encounter.

Sylvia Sadzinski is a curator, lecturer, and writer working at the intersection of contemporary art, curatorial practice, and feminist and critical theory. She is a curator at Kunsthalle Osnabrück, Germany, and from 2019 until 2026, she was artistic co-director of the feminist, non-profit art space alpha nova & galerie futura in Berlin. Her work focuses on queer-feminist curating and institutional critique. Since 2017, she has been researching and publishing on these topics across academic and artistic contexts. She currently teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and other international institutions in the fields of curatorial theory and visual culture.

2026 ❤️‍🔥 Julischka Stengele (Austria): Offering Space

💦

Me ANTI-festivaalilla toivomme Julischkalle lempeää palautumista ja odotamme keskustelujemme jatkuvan.

We at the ANTI Festival are hoping for gentle recovery to Julischka and looking forward to our dialogue to continue.

💦

💦

The text-based performance, Offering Space creates three different occasions to exist together, listen, and exchange in public spaces. @studio.stengele writes on topics such as desire, pain, food, belonging, language, health, architecture, and the body.

But this work isn’t about the artist’s texts alone, it also is about the subtle negotiations of being together: who speaks, who listens, who is held – when, where, and how.

Offering Space unfolds as an invitation: to enter, to stay, to be received, to share, to co-create. It approaches hospitality not as a service, but as a shared practice of attention – an ethics of hosting that moves between bodies, voices, and spaces. Here, welcoming becomes an active gesture of care, where community is formed as a collective act through presence, vulnerability, and response.

Marraskuu (November) 2025 in Helsinki

Back in Vienna since three days after living for almost four months socially, emotionally, physically deeply involved in this Nordic gem. Still arriving, still processing. Forever grateful to @hiap_suomenlinna FI and their fantastic team & @kunstkulturministerium AT for this opportunity, I will not forget.

What a privilege it was to be here with a stipend and have such a gorgeous space and the luxury of free time to my disposal. I loved being able to host things and people in my spacious studio apartment.

I am most thankful to/for all the people I've met during this time - old and new. My heart has been touched in so many ways, the amount of kindness and openness with which I've been met was just amazing. Crying out of bliss and out of sorrow included.

Also I can't probably convey to you how it feels for my bodymind to exist in a social climate that is way less ableist, fatphobic and hierarchical than the one I currently live in, omfg.

In an art context, the things that I'm doing are called ephemeral. But I disagree. The things that I'm making are not fleeting, they have a lasting impact. I definitely left a mark here just like others have left marks in me. Shared experiences, mutual inspiration, planting seeds.

May new collaborations bloom from this in 2026. ❤

9 weeks of Helsinki behind me, 4 in front of me.

On Friday, 14th of November I'll host an art salon at my studio just before I leave - save the date!

***

This might have been one of the fastest passing residency times ever - despite me laying around at home quite a bit.

Doing many things here that I love.
Doing things alone.
Doing things together.
Doing things for the first time.

In August that meant for example outdoor swimming in 16°C weather. And in October that meant outdoor swimming in 6°C weather (incl. 90°C Sauna before & after).

Happy to have had joyful company for much of it (only some of which is pictured here).

Thankful for the touch. Thankful for the talks. Thankful for shared silliness, laughter and bodies, especially with fellow queer crips - it's precious. Thankful for some of the pain. Thankful for the arts, the trees, the fall colors and all the words that people are teaching me. I love being able to sleep without earplugs here and that I can look at water everyday without having to go far.

Yesterday, Ee @erikaeeedlyn, Mae @the_entropy_enjoyer and I hosted PAIN <> PLEASURE in Helsinki. A workshop / get-together for kinky queers who live with chronic pain to witness each other in our experiences.

We exchanged about our relationship to pain - the good one, the bad one, the one we live with, the one we seek voluntarily, the one that enables our pleasure, the one that disables it. And we also tasted various types and intensities of pain in what we named 'the pain buffet'.

I am so happy and grateful to have found these two comrades to hold this together with me, for the people who attended and shared themselves so openly, for this intimate and beautiful queer kinky crip space that we created together, and for the possibility to utilize my @hiap_suomenlinna artist residency studio apartment for it all!

It's what I love doing most, immersing myself into a local context, into an environment, finding / building community, relating / responding to who and what's around me and simply utilizing / working with what's there.

Helsinki has been so rich and generous to me in that regard, it's special. How wonderful to be able to do something like this!

It's halftime now. My first six weeks flew by like crazy. Let's see what the next six will bring. taken in Helsinki by @studio.stengele

🍂 Gotten to know our autumn residents yet? If not, keep on reading!

✨ Our introduction round continues with Julischka Stengele @studio.stengele

"I am most looking forward to new inspiration, renewing old connections and finding new ones," Stengele says.

Stengele (she*/none) is a queer and crip transdisciplinary artist, freelance curator, writer, facilitator, and lecturer based in Vienna. A post-studio artist, her* practice is project-based, genre-crossing, and formally diverse, spanning performative, site-responsive, conceptual, and participatory formats. Stengele often creates situations, atmospheres, and get-togethers as a form of art.

Her* approach is shaped by encounters with her surroundings. Stengele responds to the relational, the contextual, and the experiential. The outcomes can be multi-sensory, at times to be eaten, touched, heard, read, or laughed with, and always translate how Stengele navigates the world and the life experiences that have shaped her*.

In June 2025, the Berlin-based cellist and sound artist Gábor Hartyáni spent one month researching and working with his family at SALETTL on the Kleine Stadt Farm in the frame of our artist-in-residence program. Throughout his stay he interviewed different members from the farm community at their favorite places on the farm grounds. Gábor asked questions about the individuals‘ relationship to the farm, what is missing, what works, and what role they play. Afterwards, he played a short, intuitive cello piece – a sounding mirror in response to this encounter. For his closing event of the residency, these “small mirrors” became a “big mirror” in the form of a mobile cello concert across five different stations.

Swipe through and take a look!

Thank you @gaborhartyani for staying with us and your reflections!

Klangspiegel (Sound Mirror)

A mobile cello concert by Berlin-based musician Gábor Hartyáni will take place as part of the closing event of his artist residency at SALETTL at the community farm Kleine Stadt Farm. As an accompaniment Vienna based artist and chef Julia Walk will create an edible installation, which visitors can take with them on the sound walk.

When: June 27 from 17:30h.
Where: Kulturverein SALETTL,
Naufahrtweg 14, 1220 Vienna

The event is free of charge!

More information and German version on our website, find the link in our bio!

Gábor Hartyáni (@gaborhartyani ), SALETTL’s 2025 artist in residence has spent the month of June interviewing several members of the Kleine Stadt Farm. In these interviews he has discussed both socio-political factors shaping the farm, as well as member’s personal connection to the farm. These interviews took place at the member’s favorite location on the farm. These personal discussions were then followed by a private cello performance by Gábor. In these performances Gábor encompassed the conversation at large, as well as the energetic force of both the person he interviewed and the space he brought them to.

On the event on June 27th, Gabor will guide the visitor to some of these places, performing these private pieces for the public to hear. This mobile concert ends at the SALETTL gallery, where Gábor will play a longer, improvised and intuitive piece. Before / as an accompaniment Julia’s (@juliekarotkki ) edible installation will amplify the collective nature of ‘Klangspiegel’ by adding the age-old tradition of sharing food with others to this community-focused experience. Finally there will be an artist talk moderated by SALETTL team member Julischka Stengele. Drinks will be available before and after the concert. The event is free of charge.

We would love to see you there, and experience this with you!

The project is sponsored and made possible by the district of Donaustadt and the City of Vienna Culture
