“No matter what I tried or how much time I put in, the ‘do it yourself’ website fell far short of looking professional, and my leads were not converting.

Studio Kind heard my story and captured my thoughts, creating a brand identity that fully aligns with my vision and my short and long-term goals. I was very impressed with the level of integrity and attention to detail I received.

Communication was very clear from the beginning, which helped both parties stay on track and accountable. The pre-work was invaluable as it meant I had time to think about my vision.

I am now so proud of my website, the services I offer, and - most importantly - the direction my brand is going in, thanks to the beautiful design and word-perfect copy.”

Every brand begins with strategy. Even in concept work, every detail matters — because names aren’t chosen, they’re crafted.

For this study, we imagined Claire Whitmore Interior Design: a Los Angeles based firm led by a fictional founder with 20+ years of experience. Claire isn’t the type to center her personal brand; she prefers the work to speak louder than her name. The challenge: to create a new identity that reflected her philosophy, her California roots, and the strength of the team she had built — without tying everything to her own name.

Her aesthetic is clear. Timeless interiors inspired by nature, shaped by relaxed California culture, and guided by her belief that the rules of design must first be mastered before they can be tastefully broken. The brand needed a name that was short, distinct, and memorable, while carrying layers of meaning that reflected both her ethos and her geographic territory.

That’s how we arrived at Calimus.

The name draws from several layers of strategy:

Calamus: a plant and ancient oil long associated with calm, focus, and creativity — the same experience Claire creates in her interiors.

A subtle nod to California, swapping the second a for an i, rooting the brand in its West Coast identity.

Mus: a layered ending with multiple resonances. In Latin, mus relates to “muscle,” symbolizing strength, skill, and force of design. It also echoes “music,” aligning with Claire’s self-description as a musician of space — composing rooms like symphonies, balancing rules with creativity.

The result is a name that feels effortless yet intentional, layered with cultural, natural, and personal references. Serenity, strength, and creativity — all distilled into six letters.

This is the kind of depth we bring to naming: strategy-first, story-rich, and crafted to last. taken in Los Angeles, California by @studio____kind

Minimalism isn’t innovation—it’s conformity.

Grey, beige, cream, white walls. It’s easy. And it’s everywhere.

Of course, minimal spaces have their benefits—they can bring calm and clarity. But when every living room starts to look like the same “luxury showroom” or copy-and-paste neutral home, the art of design gets lost. Too often, grand spaces are reduced to blank slates: oversized white sofas, marble coffee tables, and carefully curated neutrals that feel more like sets than lived-in homes.

The truth is, homes aren’t meant to be showrooms. They’re meant to feel alive—layered with color, texture, and narrative. They should reflect the people inside them, not erase them. A well-designed home becomes a sanctuary, a place where creativity flows, identity is celebrated, and memory is built into every surface and object.

That’s why we partner with designers who embrace vintage pieces, bold palettes, and environments that invite time in nature and time in community.

Because what we need right now isn’t more sameness—it’s more art and more soul. Eave Haus Est 1989 taken in EAVE by @studio____kind

Meet Ria Johnston — world traveler, multidisciplinary creative, and founder of Studio Kind.

With over a decade of experience across industries, Ria has worn many hats: marketer, videographer, art curator, portrait photographer, web developer, product designer, copywriter, educator, brand designer, and strategist. She has collaborated with brands in hospitality, real estate, medicine, law, tech, finance, art, tourism, fashion, and wellness—bringing a uniquely versatile perspective to every project.

Ria has worked for leading creative agencies and her work has been featured by Conde Nast Traveler, Squarespace, Voyage Dallas, and The Futur.

Over time, Ria discovered her sweet spot: partnering with established interior designers who want their brand identity to feel as elevated and enduring as the spaces they create.

Her approach seamlessly blends creative direction, strategy, branding, and design into a process that gives her clients not just beautiful brands, but also clarity and confidence in how they show up.

Outside the office, Ria can be found at the gym with her husband, sewing her own clothes, or crafting a new recipe in her kitchen. taken in Texas by @studio____kind

Animation in web design is like fresh flowers in interior design. Not essential for function—but essential for feeling.

Because no one hires an interior designer just for four walls and furniture. They hire you for atmosphere, for a space that feels alive, intentional, and deeply personal. The same is true of brand and web design.

Your website isn’t only a container for information. It’s the stage where your brand comes to life—where subtle details (like animation) shift the experience from functional to memorable.

It’s these layers of design—the ones you can’t always quantify but can always feel—that separate a website that simply works from one that works wonders.

We believe the details are what elevate the whole.

5 Signs You’re Ready to Partner With Our Team

1 // You’ve established your voice as a designer. Clients hire you for your eye, your vision, and your artistry—not because you mimic trends. They value the signature perspective you bring to every project, even as you collaborate.

2 // Your portfolio showcases your distinct style with 9+ completed projects, paired with strong photography and video that beautifully capture the essence of your work.

3 // You’ve been featured in leading publications—Architectural Digest, Home & Garden, Wallpaper, Elle Decor, Vogue Living, or another major outlet—but your website doesn't reflects the caliber of your press or portfolio. There’s a clear gap between the level of your work and how your brand is currently represented online.

4 // Your branding is due for an evolution. Perhaps your business name no longer aligns with your direction, or your logo feels dated compared to the design culture you and your team have cultivated.

5 // You’re seeking clarity. You know your digital presence needs refinement—whether that’s your website, SEO, or social strategy—but you want a clear, prioritized roadmap from experienced partners who can see the bigger picture and guide you forward with confidence. Let’s talk about something that can totally transform your business…

creating a brand strategy BEFORE diving into design.

It’s like building a house—you need a solid foundation to make sure everything else doesn’t crumble.

Think of your brand strategy as the blueprint that helps you define who you are, who you serve, and what makes you unique. It’s not just about logos or websites; it’s about crafting a clear message that resonates with your audience and sets you apart from competitors.

Without a brand strategy, you might end up investing time and money into marketing efforts that miss the mark. It’s like trying to build a house without knowing where the doors and windows should go—you might end up with a structure that looks nice but doesn’t serve its purpose. 🚧

A well-crafted brand strategy does more than just differentiate you; it builds trust and loyalty with your audience. It’s the key to creating a unified brand experience that feels authentic and meaningful. When your brand speaks clearly and consistently, you attract the right people and create a loyal following. 💬

So, before you start designing your brand’s visual identity or launching marketing campaigns, take a step back and focus on building those foundations. Ask yourself:

Who am I? What values do I stand for?

Who do I serve? What are their needs and desires?

What makes me unique? How do I stand out in the market?

Answering these questions will give you the clarity you need to create a brand that truly resonates with your audience. And trust me, it’s worth it When you have a strong brand strategy, you open yourself up to new levels of confidence and creative expression.

You start to see results that aren’t just about numbers, but about the real connections you make with your audience. 🚀

So, take the time to get your brand strategy right. It’s an investment that will pay off in ways you never thought possible. 💫 taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @studio____kind

It’s easy to place blame when a client or contractor messes up… but it’s harder to take ownership when YOU are the one attracting then 😬

It took me a long time to realize how I was playing the victim in my business.

I used to say, “She didn’t read the contract!” or “She didn’t deliver on time!”

My resentment would show up in my work and in how I communicated—and, of course, that did NOT help.

It took me a long time to take ownership and instead say:

“I didn’t vet them on the sales call. I didn’t set up the right systems to remind my client and over-communicate. I didn’t market myself to attract high-value clients.”

Ah. Now there’s the humbling truth. 😅

It might not be easy to admit, but being honest with yourself creates much less internal conflict than the tension of blame.

Here’s the cool thing, though: ✨

It’s these mistakes, moments of self-awareness, and new boundaries that shape your brand.

It’s those frustrating “Ah, I never want to work with someone like this again!” days that help you clarify your brand’s values.

Your values are the foundation that informs your copy, your design, and your online strategy. 🛠️

It’s a spiral, not a straight line. 🔄

You’ll launch, sell, serve, learn—and then circle back, this time with more clarity on how to do it better.

Let the ‘bad client experiences’ make you better, not bitter. 💪✨ taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @studio____kind

Want me to make one based off of photos of your outfits or spaces? Dm us a photo and we’ll make it happen!

👩‍🎨👨‍🎨 As a creative person, it can be hard to let someone else share the reins when creating something that will represent you and your work.

Whether you’re a photographer, artist, fashion stylist, interior designer, or simply someone with a strong sense of self, it can be challenging to trust that the brand design you’re creating will truly look and feel like you.

The good news is… that’s exactly the kind of problem we love to solve.

📸 Any inspiration references you provide as part of our creative process can go beyond digital design.

You can share images of your favorite outfits, your dream home, or anything else that reflects your unique style.

A brand is more than a logo—it’s so much more than just a website. And a picture is worth a thousand words 🙂‍↕️

We want to get to know you as a person and how you express yourself (not just online) so that we can interpret that into your website and brand design.

The alternative?

Learning how to design a brand and website yourself.

And, well… unless you’re ready to change your entire career path, you’ll probably find out that collaborating with a professional is much easier than clinging to creative control and the belief that only you can bring your aesthetic to life.

✨ Instead of putting off the refresh or launch of your new branding and site because you “haven’t found the perfect images for creative direction yet”…

Maybe trust that we can draw your aesthetic out through our tried-and-tested process. taken in Joshua Tree, California by @studio____kind

Your brand design isn’t just about looking pretty—it’s a key factor in how your audience perceives your business, builds trust, and ultimately decides whether to invest in you.

High-quality design sets the tone for your entire brand. It communicates PROFESSIONALISM, CREDIBILITY, and CONSISTENCY, which are all essential for standing out in a competitive market.

When potential customers see a brand that feels polished and cohesive, it signals that you care about details—and that same care translates into how they assume you’ll handle their needs.

Think about it: would you trust a business with mismatched visuals and sloppy designs, or one with a professional, well-thought-out look?

The answer is obvious.

Quality design also creates RECOGNITION.

Consistency across your logo, colors, typography, and overall aesthetic makes your business instantly recognizable, whether someone sees your Instagram post, website, or product packaging.

This familiarity builds TRUST over time.

People don’t just buy products or services; they buy from brands they KNOW and feel CONNECTED to.

But here’s the kicker: great design doesn’t just help you look good; it DRIVES ACTION. Studies have shown that brands with cohesive, high-quality design are more likely to convert browsers into buyers and buyers into loyal customers.

It’s not just about attracting attention; it’s about HOLDING it and guiding it to action.

If you’re serious about increasing your revenue, investing in your brand design is one of the smartest moves you can make.

It’s more than aesthetics—it’s a powerful TOOL for growth.

High-quality design → TRUST → RECOGNITION → ACTION → REVENUE.

Every detail counts, and every detail pays off. taken in Venice Beach by @studio____kind
