Fitzroy Quarter by Milieu (Coming Soon)

We’re pleased to introduce Fitzroy Quarter, a new neighbourhood in Melbourne’s inner north, where Fitzroy, Collingwood, Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North meet.

Shaped through design at every scale, Fitzroy Quarter brings together architecture, landscape and local life as part of one connected whole. The project has been developed with a collective of local architects, landscape designers and collaborators, each bringing a different perspective to how a neighbourhood might be lived in.

Explore Fitzroy Quarter via the link in bio.

Crescent House

Update ** Commendation in the @housesmagazine awards tonight. So many excellent projects.

Builder: @basisbuilders
Studio Bright lead: @robertlesliehillman
Photos: @gavin__green
Landscape: @joferguson.gardens

Crescent House is the renovation of a 1970s beach home on a bush-edged site on the Mornington Peninsula, reworked to support a family of four relocating from the city full-time. The project adopts a surgical approach, retaining the spatial qualities of the original house while carefully removing ad hoc additions that had accumulated over time. The entry sequence is reimagined through a boardwalk that moves through the landscape, leading into generous living spaces. by @studio__bright

SDA Housing Project

Providing housing for those most in need is something that is very important to us.

We were delighted to see this special project winning an Architecture Award at the Vic Architecture Awards this year and also this week winning a Commendation for the Award for Social Impact.

We are so grateful to Disability Homes Vic for their support and vision and thrilled that this modest project is being recognized and appreciated. Thank you to the juries. Congrats to the SB team especially @robertlesliehillman who led this project with such care and dedication.

2026 Victorian Architecture Awards
Architecture Award: Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing

Jury citation:
“The project serves as a template for future SDA developments, proving that specialist accommodation can deliver dignity and quality of life while meeting complex regulatory requirements. In doing so, it establishes a new benchmark for housing that serves its most vulnerable residents with architectural excellence and genuine care. “

2026 ArchitectureAu Award for Social Impact: Commendation

Jury citation:
“This prototype housing for Disability Homes Victoria attends to the dearth of design investment in supported disability accommodation, particularly within the “robust” category. Through carefully considered spatial arrangements, material palette, detailing and environmental performance, the project successfully navigates a series of complex and competing relationships between home and workplace, privacy and connection, safety and independence, comfort and durability, and efficiency and amenity.”

SDA Housing shortlisted in @architecture_vic AIA awards multi residential category.

Plus… Incredibly generous review on @architecture_au
Thank you Rachel Hurst.

The SDA Housing Project comprises two purpose-designed homes for Disability Homes Victoria, delivering Specialist Disability Accommodation under the NDIS Robust category. Designed for people living with severe intellectual disabilities, the project addresses one of the most underrepresented housing typologies, which is often met with limited architectural ambition. This project was conceived as a pilot to challenge that norm and demonstrate that higher-quality design can materially improve residents’ quality of life while reducing long-term damage, maintenance, and operational costs.

Ultimately, this project seeks to operate as a modest precedent, demonstrating that even the most demanding forms of specialist housing can be delivered with dignity, generosity, and care, meaningfully improving the everyday lives of residents and their carers.

House Freddie….
Submitted for Vic Awards this week

Studio Bright lead: @jaxonwebb
Builder: @frank_buildingexcellence
Landscape: @peachy_green_
Photography: @gavin__green

On a humble suburban corner site, this unassuming 1960s, mid-century house retained its low horizontal form and clear presentation to the street, however, the original planning had lost its strong relationship with the landscape.

At a time when modest houses of this period are routinely demolished in favour of larger, generic replacements, the project instead adopts a strategy of repair, rigour & restraint. The existing house remains largely intact, continuing to read as a grounded, horizontal figure within the suburban fabric. A new vertical companion—a singular, stacked breezeblock tower—rises from this base, introducing a contrasting yet carefully proportioned element. by @studio__bright

Crescent House …..

Crescent House is a renovation of a 1970s beach home, set within a bush-edged site on the Mornington Peninsula. While demolition would have been a common response, the project instead adopts a surgical approach, reworking the existing house to accommodate a family of four relocating full-time from the city.

A unifying external veil wraps the house, bringing together old and new elements. Formed from a simple timber post structure, the veil is shaped through three subtle crescent geometries. by @studio__bright
