Edge and Harbour by Studio Bright in Melbourne, Australia (2024)

A sculptural hedge marks the street frontage of Edge and Harbour, while solid garden walls and a planted arbour establish a series of thresholds between the interior and the landscape. The main volume runs along the southern edge of the site, allowing the living spaces to open toward garden courtyards on either side.

A delicate screen wraps the building to form a veranda, providing shelter from wind and harsh sunlight while contrasting with the solid blockwork walls. At the western edge, where the terrain drops steeply, the building follows the slope down to meet the ground rather than extending outward as a cantilever.

House Freddie by @studio__bright

This adaptation of a midcentury suburban residence strikes a balance between retention and refinement, resulting in a contemporary home that is seriously joyful.

"At the heart of this project is a set of questions about how to adapt the existing house to better support a young family of five now and into the future, without simply adding and duplicating floor area, and without accepting the demolition of large parts of the existing building as a given."

Tower Garden House by Studio Bright.

Rather than starting from scratch, Studio Bright worked with the existing house and its established suburban setting, carefully adapting and extending what was already there.

The renovation creates a series of interconnected spaces around the garden, balancing the retained fabric of the home with new interventions and a considered approach to material and light.

Featuring our Jolly Double Rod Pendant.

Fitzroy Quarter by Milieu (Coming Soon)

We’re pleased to introduce Fitzroy Quarter, a new neighbourhood in Melbourne’s inner north, where Fitzroy, Collingwood, Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North meet.

Shaped through design at every scale, Fitzroy Quarter brings together architecture, landscape and local life as part of one connected whole. The project has been developed with a collective of local architects, landscape designers and collaborators, each bringing a different perspective to how a neighbourhood might be lived in.

Explore Fitzroy Quarter via the link in bio.

With Spring well and truly here, it’s the perfect time to look at some of Australia’s best garden and landscape projects! All 3 we have selected winning awards in 2025.

🌿 Hedge House - @studio__bright
Hedge House by Studio Bright (image), located in Melbourne takes a more natural approach to the residential garden, with the landscape designed to connect with the surrounding bushland rather than feeling separate from it.
The project was recognised with an Award of Excellence at the 2025 AILA Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards, particularly for its focus on regeneration, biodiversity and habitat creation.

🌿 Peninsula Project - COS Design
Located on the Mornington Peninsula, COS Design took out Landscape of the Year at the 2025 Victorian Landscape Industry Awards for this residential project!
The garden combines structured planting with pool and entertaining areas, creating a landscape that works as an extension of the house. It’s a good example of how landscape design can completely change the way a home is used, not just adding greenery, but creating different spaces to move through, sit in and spend time in.

🌿 Gumnut Garden - Oxigen
For something with a little more colour, Gumnut Garden by Oxigen was awarded the Garden Award of Excellence at the 2025 AILA SA Awards. The project uses a mix of planting, texture and colour to create a garden with plenty of personality. It feels less formal than some of the more structured residential landscapes and lets the planting do a lot of the work.

What’s interesting about these projects is that there isn’t one formula for a great Australian garden. Hedge House is focused on regeneration and its natural surroundings. Peninsula Project is about outdoor living and entertaining. Gumnut Garden brings colour and planting to the forefront.

Stay tuned for the 2026 Australian Landscape Awards due to be announced in October!
