The Amazon rainforest, the world’s colossal green lungs and home to innumerable species of flora and fauna, has long been an unrivalled haven of biodiversity. This magnificent provenance of life that reigns over South America scrambles for its own sustenance today. Destructive human practices of indiscriminate lodging, a major problem that the forest faces, is the origin of our new Ibuju collection.

Starting from the idea of a “primitive” object as it is a built piece of furniture from wooden logs and the problem of cutting down trees, the proposal is to take advantage of a renewable material such as “Yaré”, there Ibuju is born, a bench made out of this natural fiber, rethinking the design and the manufacturing of native wooden pieces using new and sustainable materials.

NEW TABLE/

Ibuju is a project focused on the Colombian jungle preservation using “yaré” fiber as a sustainable material to replace indiscriminate deforestation.

“Yaré” is the example of the great biodiversity that Colombia has.
This fiber extracted by indigenous communities in the south of Colombia grows attached to trees and has been used by local communities for the development of handcrafts.

This Ibuju project starts with a group of weavers, translating the furniture aesthetics made from wooden blocks in a primitive way, to the use of “yaré” weaving in these same geometries

Sociedad de la tierra

— Society of the Earth — is an exploration developed within the Albor mentorship program around the territorial, human, and material relationships behind contemporary collectible design.

Through the dialogue between five mentors and five Colombian designers, the exhibition reflects on how we inhabit the land, how local craft evolves, and how matter can become a physical archive of landscape, time, memory, and ways of making.

Beyond the object itself, Society of the Earth proposes design as a collaborative and conscious practice, deeply rooted in its surroundings and responsive to the social, ecological, and cultural transformations of our time.

Fruit bowl for the newly renovated Vitra showroom in Paris, made from yaré fiber and taking on the great challenge of weaving a small-scale piece with this strong, rigid material.

A new piece in which we sought to emulate the random growth of the fiber in nature.

I think there is a direct connection with migration. It has to do with hope; people move because they believe in the possibility of a better life. Movement, by itself, means nothing unless it carries a spirit of dignity and transformation. In a way, migration becomes a matter of rights, but also a social value deeply rooted in human experience.

Hope-Token is a project that reflects on the complex present experienced by many undocumented migrants in different parts of the world.
In the search for new opportunities and better living conditions, the world is currently facing a global social crisis marked by the displacement of countless people who leave their territories of origin and arrive, in many cases, in contexts of deep inequality shaped by race, language, and economic or legal status.

Within this scenario, informal economies such as metal recycling become a fundamental means of subsistence, supporting the local adaptation processes of entire families and elevating the material itself to the status of an essential resource for survival.

Together with a small group of migrant recyclers, and using the materials they recovered, molds were built in satellite workshops across the city of Barcelona. Into these molds, glass pieces were blown, alluding to the fragility of human adaptation when confronted with a rigid and pre-established “new mold.”

These vases function as poetic markers of fragility and life, giving material form to an experience of resistance, transformation, and hope.

Emulate Nature Armchair

Since the launch of our pieces woven with yaré fiber in 2021, this has been the most challenging piece we have created to date. It took us months to weave, along with a constant process of going back and forth in making decisions about how the piece would “grow.”

Last year, we decided to challenge the traditional weaving method and use it to simulate the natural, random growth of the fiber. Today, there is no greater satisfaction than seeing it brought to life.

DHub, Exhibition “Inspired in Barcelona: Luce”

Antorcha poetically evokes the most primitive way of producing natural light: fire contained in a wooden branch wrapped with vines or lianas, which for Amazonian peoples has symbolized the act of maintaining “the order of the world.”

In response to @stefano.colli ‘sinvitation to design a piece centered on light as the conceptual axis of the exhibition, this new work emerges. It seeks to “weave” and challenge traditional handcraft processes through the use of an uncommon material, such as stainless steel, applied in metal coiling. In doing so, the piece explores and embraces experimental design methods.
