The first edition of Albor Mentorships.

A heartfelt thank you to all the mentors and designers for being part of this special edition, and to everyone who joined us for our first exhibition, “Sociedad de la Tierra.”

Sociedad de la tierra

— Society of the Earth — is an exploration developed within the Albor mentorship program around the territorial, human, and material relationships behind contemporary collectible design.

Through the dialogue between five mentors and five Colombian designers, the exhibition reflects on how we inhabit the land, how local craft evolves, and how matter can become a physical archive of landscape, time, memory, and ways of making.

Beyond the object itself, Society of the Earth proposes design as a collaborative and conscious practice, deeply rooted in its surroundings and responsive to the social, ecological, and cultural transformations of our time.

La fortuna de poder llamar a esta tierra hogar y a estos seres, familia.
De reconectar, en cada viaje, con lo más profundo de mi ser, cuidar de mí, buscar la luz y recordar que ya lo tengo todo y necesito muy poco:

Un techo y un abrigo.
Seguir al viento y al calor del sol.
Honrar la amistad, cultivar la bondad y la ternura radical.
Honrar los oficios y la fuerza transformadora de mis manos, de la repetición y de la constancia.
Atesorar una curiosidad insaciable.
Y agradecer el privilegio del tiempo: tiempo para la presencia y la sencillez, tiempo para respirar y celebrar el silencio.

🔵 INAUGURACIÓN | El sábado 30 de mayo Materia Prima abrió sus puertas en Chinchón (Madrid).

Más de 250 personas asistieron a la jornada inaugural, celebrada en el marco de @mayrit.bienal .

La jornada sirvió también para dar a conocer algunos de los primeros proyectos desarrollados en Materia Prima:

Materia Prima es un centro internacional de investigación y experimentación en diseño y arquitectura, fundado en Chinchón (Madrid) en 2026 por Pablo Sevilla @sevillaisnotacity y Guillermo Gil @guillegilfernandez . Su programa interdisciplinar explora el papel de los recursos materiales en los procesos creativos y productivos, y su impacto en el diseño de objetos, el entorno construido y el territorio, a través de talleres, residencias, seminarios, publicaciones y exposiciones.

OPENING | On Saturday, May 30, Materia Prima opened its doors in Chinchón (Madrid). More than 200 people attended the opening event, held as part of @mayrit.bienal .

Materia Prima is an international center for research and experimentation in design and architecture, founded in Chinchón (Madrid) in 2026 by Guillermo Gil and Pablo Sevilla. Its interdisciplinary program explores the role of material resources in creative and productive processes, and their impact on object design, the built environment, and the territory, through workshops, residencies, seminars, publications, and exhibitions.

Francisco Jaramillo is the designer behind the Colombian studio Fango. His work draws vitality from a constant pursuit of bringing the past and present of his native Colombia into his pieces, creating an emotionally resonant dialogue.

Jaramillo believes that design applies to everything, from the simplest everyday objects to the understanding of environments as opportunities for ecological, social, or economic improvement. With a background in engineering and arts, he does not believe in imposing a fixed process on his work. Instead, he chooses to learn from each scenario rather than forcing a predefined design methodology.
He believes that objects hold narrative power, which is why he emphasizes that material, context, stories and people together form the soul of an object.

🔵 EXPOSICIÓN | Producto! Producto! Producto! — El giro material

El pasado 30 de mayo, en el marco de la inauguración del centro y en colaboración con @mayrit.bienal , Materia Prima presentó “Producto! Producto! Producto! — El giro material”, una exposición colectiva que reúne obras y proyectos de @jorgepenades , @janatothillcalvo , @lucasmunozm , @amaliapuga.design , @laiaamigoayats , @vicent_orts , @_p_a_n_a_l_ , @estudiodisolvente y @studio__fango .

La exposición explora el papel de los materiales, los procesos de fabricación y las lógicas constructivas dentro del diseño contemporáneo. Tierra compactada, raíces de olivo, redes de pesca recuperadas, vidrio soplado, asfalto, aluminio reutilizado, plástico reciclado o biopolímeros desarrollados a partir de cera de abeja revelan nuevas relaciones entre industria, artesanía, territorio y producción.

En una cultura dominada por la abstracción digital, estas piezas reivindican el conocimiento material como herramienta proyectual.

On 30 May, as part of the opening of the centre, Materia Prima presented “Producto! Producto! Producto! — El giro material”, a group exhibition bringing together work by Jorge Penadés, Jana Tothill, Lucas Muñoz, Amalia Puga, Laia Amigó, Vicent Orts, Pablo Bolumar, Estudio Disolvente, and Fango Studio.

The exhibition explores the role of materials, manufacturing processes, and construction logics within contemporary design. Rammed earth, olive roots, reclaimed fishing nets, blown glass, asphalt, reused aluminium, recycled plastics, and biopolymers developed from beeswax reveal new relationships between industry, craftsmanship, territory, and production.

In a culture dominated by digital abstraction, these works reclaim material knowledge as a fundamental tool for design practice.
