Day 28: Last

Can’t believe it’s the last Februllage for this year. I’m always surprised by what I end up creating for each prompt word. Wasn’t entirely sure what to make for this one, but this lonely figure on a cliff top from an old National Geographic magazine seemed to convey a sense of isolation.

I like to think this final book cover is for an epic story of adventure about the last few people on Earth surviving in the remote American wilderness. Actually sounds quite appealing!

Thank you to the @februllage crew and community, I’ve really enjoyed this year’s collage adventure. Ready for a bit of a break from posting daily too, but inspired to keep on collaging and connecting.

For @Februllage this year I’m creating series of collage-based book cover designs, called FictionalWorks. Each book cover is a made-up title and author, inspired by the daily Februllage prompt.

Day 26: X-Ray

Maybe this fictional title is for espionage thriller about Cold War spies. Who can uncover what lies beneath first?

Day 25: Witch

Was anyone else terrified of the Disney witches as a kid? Maybe don’t read The Evil Queen’s biography then. 🧙

Day 24: Titanic

Torn up paper overlaid on a seascape image from an old National Geographic. Kind had to lock the type to the bottom to create that sinking feeling. Trying to keep this one quite minimal.

Day 23: Teeth

Not sure where the idea to replace teeth with piano keys came from, but here we are. Didn’t have heaps of time to make today’s collage, so it feels a bit lo-fi punk. Still pleased with how the fuzzy text turned out. Fun to use some flouro colours too.

Day 22: Pink

One privilege of living in Aotearoa New Zealand is discovering the richness of te reo Māori (the Māori language). In te reo the word for white is mā, and the word for red is whero. There is therefore something logical and magical that the word for pink is a blend of both words: māwhero.

Maybe this book is about the beautiful layers of meaning the Māori language.

Day 21: Soap

A soft pastel palette, cut from from an old copy of @homemagazine.nz (they always have swathes of tasteful, flat colour). Maybe this book is a collection of short stories about beauty in the banal of everyday life.

Classic family photo book homage. Heavily inspired by Ken Garland’s legendary work for Galt Toys, and the stunning cover for Doxology that @jack_flag designed.

Day 19: Pigeon

I might be biased, but I’m pretty sure we have the best pigeon in Aotearoa New Zealand. Introducing: King Kererū, the definitive guide to the coolest and most colourful wood pigeon in the world (maybe). 🐦🇳🇿
