IN SCHOOL, we learned a little ditty called “Little Black Jug.” The protagonist liked gin, the missus liked rum, I tell ya, we had lots of fun, so the song went.

That song plays in my head whenever I’m around this jug. It’s not brown, but it’s jovial, good for holdin’ a belt o’ Henny.

60 years ago, Black artists, writers, poets, performers, and philosophers came together to forge a vision of what Black life could become. Collectively, they breathed life into their vision, creating art movements and building institutions.
What does Black Power mean in a time of dwindling access and rising racism? We are seeking works that respond to the legacy of the Black Arts Movement, works that breathe life into a new vision for Black America while speaking our self-evident truths to power.

THANKS for everyone who came out to see Mom and me at Fourth Pres Sunday. I, in true teacher fashion, prepared a mini-retrospective of Mom’s work and career, which spanned decades.

Missed the talk? No worries! The event was recorded—did I hear somebody say watch party? Stay tuned… by @studio_rez

WHY IS THIS WOMAN SMILING? She’s hoping you’ll join us 2morrow!
ps parking sucks. The church offers validation codes for parking at the John Hancock. Otherwise CTA or SpotHero.

LONG STORY SHORT: Spent two months making in Mexico. Had to leave a piece behind. Said piece will be on display in Cholula, where it was born. I’m gonna talk about it, along with the other work I did there. Link in bio.
