Autumn’s Embrace

Introducing Alison Ross-

Alison Ross is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and poet based in North Wales.
She creates figurative paintings exploring memory, stillness, human connection and the subtle space between the ordinary and the imagined.
Poetry is an integral part of her creative practice. Her poems and paintings often develop alongside one another, each helping to shape the atmosphere and emotional language of the other.
Her figures inhabit quiet interiors and atmospheric coastal landscapes, often accompanied by animals, moonlight or symbolic elements. With touches of magical realism and an open-ended, cinematic quality, the paintings invite viewers to pause and discover their own stories within them.

I am delighted that Alison will be joining us at Aberglasney Gardens for The Autumn Gathering late this month.

The Autumn Gathering Opens from October 28th till November 6th.
October 10-6pm
November 10:30-4:30pm
Entrance fee will apply

Open Evening 31st October 5-8pm with free entrance to the gardens.

The Autumn Gathering
Studio Cennen’s second exhibition at The Mansion, Aberglasney Gardens

28th October – 6th November
Open daily from 10am

Open Evening — Saturday 31st October, 5–8pm
With Coaltown Coffee serving delicious warming drinks, and free entry to the gardens.

We return for a second show at the mansion at Aberglasney at an auspicious time, at the twilight of the year when the harvest of the land, allotments and kitchen gardens have mostly been gathered in. The organic Walled Kitchen Garden here led by Hattie Kerrs has been ablaze with the rich colours of Autumn flowers and produce, with the Crab Apple arch dripping with colourful gourds and the rich burgundy wine tones of Amaranth setting off the eye popping yellow of the Sunflowers. The sunny, warm days of this season contrast with the slight chill of the evenings.

And this is where we straddle the light and dark, the day and night - the Celts had two seasons - Beltain /Summer and Samhain / Winter - but this is the blurring time, the nuanced time of the evening before we dip into full darkness, the liminal space where later societies believed the veil between the real world and the spirit world was at its thinnest…when some cultures would lay an extra space at the table for their lost loved ones and others would light large fires to deter the evils spirits away. by @studiocennen

Carolyn Little with her work.

Swansea Artist Carolyn Little first visited the gallery a few years ago to introduce the works of her husband George Little.
Welsh Art Historian Peter Wakelin has recent,y written a book about the life and works of George Little and we showed a selection of his work last year at Mines, Mills, Milk and Minerals @art_at_the_hall 2025.
When I visited Carolyn at her Mumbles home to view George Little’s works I was also really taken with Carolyn’s work and thought it would be perfect for this summer exhibition- And Curiouser.
Strong, confident, playful and powerful pieces that demand attention.They would light up a room and bring you joy daily.

The exhibition continues til 27th September. by @studiocennen

It was fab to welcome Anna to the gallery yesterday for her debut visit. Anna dropped in on her way home from Cardigan for the @craftfestival to her home in Cornwall.
This year Anna founded a new business, Gwelva Gallery in Marazion. I always welcome the opportunity to compare notes with a fellow gallery owner.

As I don’t open my doors til Noon on a Saturday Anna took the opportunity to visit Penny @ivyhousegalleryllandeilo and @crafts.alive picking up local treasures where ever she went.
Originally from Cardiff, Anna spent her career in publishing, now runs an events venue and founded Gwelfa in February this year. If you want something done well, ask a busy woman.
