Our Architecture 🟡 “A whispered dialogue between objects, surfaces, space, and light. The value of the whisper is in generating projects that are in harmony with each other. Not defining a style but a personality capable of expressing its own value. Simple forms, soft colors, and beauty in imperfection where the project defines itself with the user, the only true protagonist.” – Marialaura Irvine #radicalwhisper by @studioirvine

Rigour and feeling. Light and warmth.

Two elements, Lui and Lei, designed by Marialaura of @studioirvine for @fornacedemartino, conceived as two characters within the same architectural language.

I always love working with Marialaura — her way of balancing precision with something more instinctive feels very close to me, and to the way I like to photograph.

Here, openings, proportions and repetition give structure to the objects, while light does the rest: passing through them, changing their presence, until, inevitably, Lui and Lei start looking back at us. taken in Milan, Italy by @studioirvine

Cotto is one of the oldest materials in architecture 🟡 earth, water, air, fire, five generations of knowledge..with @fornacedemartino and the extraordinary @giulioridolfo , I worked on a new system of formats: a lot of different sizes that gives architects the freedom to compose, without ever losing the soul of the material.

And then there are Lui and Lei 🧱 two bricks. A divider, a presence, an object that keeps you company…

This is only the beginning.

Back in the studio.

After Ladakh, after the silence, after the vastness, I come back with one word in my head: simplification.

And also with something deeper. Ladakh reminded me what it means to be proud of your own culture. To carry it forward with belonging, not nostalgia. To find beauty in the handmade, in the layered, in the thing that takes time and knows where it comes from. Simple, beautiful, full of stories.

And then there is the world we came back to. A global crisis: economic, climatic, human. Ladakh, in its own way, answered that too. It reaffirmed something I already believed but needed to feel again: every project has an impact. On the climate. On culture. On the people who will live with it.

This means taking a clear position on materials: using them intelligently, consciously, without waste or pretence. It means understanding that what we design is never neutral. It never was.

Simplification, then, is not an aesthetic choice. It is an ethical one.

The studio is quiet. The ideas are not. Let’s begin.

Colour & texture 🇮🇳

From Ladakh to Kashmir to Rajasthan, a journey that reveals itself in surfaces before form. Rammed earth, lime, local stone, hand-dyed textiles: each technique tells the story of a territory that has learned to answer its own climate, its own light, its own constraints.

Not styles to import, but building logics to listen to; tradition as method, not as aesthetic.

Architecture, space and light 🇮🇳

In Ladakh, raw earth remains the most intelligent response to climate: cool in summer, able to hold warmth through winter. Wooden staircases mark the vertical rhythm of the houses, built on the same logic for centuries.

In Srinagar, Kashmir, architecture is layered: wood and stone alternate in a building technique that is both structure and memory, with intricately carved woodwork that is entirely unique to the region.

In Jaipur, finally, it’s the delicate decorations and colours that define the space: ornament as an integral part of construction, not an addition.

Three territories, three different answers to the same question: how to build in harmony with light, space and one’s own place.

Everyday objects 🇮🇳

The most authentic forms are often those that bear no signature. Copper utensils, wooden benches, woollen rugs: products crafted by local artisans, blending tradition with modernity, born of use and perfected through repetition.

On my travels from Ladakh to Kashmir and Rajasthan, it is precisely these simple, functional and timeless objects that teach me about design and respect for craft processes.

Laundry room is where a home actually begins 🟡 It’s the room that keeps everything else running: clean, ordered, dignified. I think it deserves the same care, the same thought, the same materials and colors as any other space in the house.

Dignity starts in the places no one photographs.

Except when they do beautifully:

A kitchen shaped by softness and precision. In Marialaura Irvine’s Milan home, the kitchen is defined by curved lines, tactile surfaces and a warm palette of beige and cinnamon. Our V-ZUG CombairSteamer in pearl blends beautifully into this composition, while our black CombiCookTop adds a classic contrast. What stands out most is the discreet integration of the extractor fan, which preserves the calm clarity of the space.

Here, every element has been considered to support both daily life and architectural clarity. The result is a kitchen that feels quietly composed, yet highly functional.
