Come find me this Thursday at @columbiaclimate during #ClimateWeekNYC.

Beyond the Forecast: El Niño, Society, and Climate Action
Sep 24 - 2 to 3:30pm ET

Starting with El Niño, we’re getting into how people actually respond to climate information - and why leadership, institutions, culture, incentives and plain human behavior shape the decisions more than the data does.

I’ll be on the panel with fellow Distinguished Fellow Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis and Kate Guy from the Center on Global Energy Policy, moderated by Prof. Jeffrey Shaman, with opening remarks from Dean Alexis Abramson.

Free and open - RSVP link in the @columbiaclimate bio

It’s Climate Week in New York, and wanted to share a throwback to one of my very first glacial works: Jakobshavn I (2015-2016)

This was the cornerstone of Earth Works: Mapping the Anthropocene, which opened at the @nortonmuseumofart in 2017 and traveled to the @fishermuseum and the @nhmla 2018.

It’s 16’x11’ (3.2x2.4m) Jakobshavn is one of the fastest-moving glaciers on Earth, and I flew over it with @nasa scientists in 2015 and 2016. The scale of the piece was never about spectacle. It’s about the fact that a glacier, and the changes happening to it, operate at spatial scales the human body can’t take in. You stand in front of it and you still can’t see it. That gap is the subject.

I’ll be teaching this in the spring in my first course at the @columbiaclimate School, a philosophical anthropology of how we perceive (and fail to perceive) the natural world around us. More on that soon.

More on the work on my website at justinbrice.com. taken in New York by @studiojustinbrice

Reposted from @columbiaclimate

We are very pleased to welcome our inaugural Climate, Earth and Society Distinguished Fellows, five exceptional leaders who will enrich our teaching, research, and impact:

* Rohit “Rit” Aggarwala is a leader in urban sustainability and infrastructure who previously served as New York City’s Chief Climate Officer and Commissioner of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

* Justin Brice Guariglia is a visual artist whose work explores changing ecosystems and humanity’s relationship with the natural world through collaborations with scientists and other thinkers.

* Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis is an entrepreneur and creative leader focused on sustainable business practices, cultural heritage, and innovation in the creative economy.

* Sarah B. Kapnick is a climate scientist and Global Head of Climate Advisory at J.P. Morgan, who previously served as Chief Scientist at NOAA, where she advanced climate research and prediction.

* Miranda Massie is the founding director of the Climate Museum, where she has pioneered the use of arts, storytelling, and community engagement to build public understanding and action on climate change.

“By bringing accomplished leaders into our community, the program creates opportunities for our students, researchers, and faculty to engage with new perspectives, learn from experience, and explore how knowledge can be translated into meaningful action. I am delighted to welcome this year’s Fellows and to have them contribute to the intellectual life of the school,” says Alexis Abramson, dean of the Columbia Climate School.

💥 One of the “Top Five Art Exhibitions to See in Central London in July” – @londonartcritic @worldoffad

It’s the final week of Justin Brice Guariglia: Agentic Forests at our Cork Street space.

Over the past fifteen years, New York-based @studiojustinbrice has visited hallowed and sacred forests from all corners of the globe. He employs a meticulous process to photograph the forests, inch by inch, collapsing dozens of exposures into a single visual plane. The fastidious work gives the pictures an almost etching- or woodblock-like feel. Guariglia then chromatically shifts each picture into the ultraviolet spectrum, radically altering the colours to unsettle expectations of these spaces - flooding them with violets, cyans, magentas, and spectral whites. The subversive gesture references the tetrachromatic UV vision of birds and insects, opening our eyes to a non-human Umwelt.

📌 Visit the exhibition now through Saturday 11 July at Flowers, 21 Cork Street, London W1.

Beat the heat and join us TONIGHT at Cork Street! We’re proud to partner with @ldnclimateweek week to host a talk with environmental consultant Nigel Winser within Justin Brice Guariglia’s exhibition Agentic Forests. @nigelwinser will be in the gallery, in conversation with @studiojustinbrice who will be live on Zoom. This will be followed by an informal tour of the exhibition, in which artist Guariglia rigorously depicts infinitely complex forest ecosystems, asserting the forest as agentic - a subject, not an object - that far exceeds human comprehension.

Nigel Winser has had a career directing interdisciplinary research and learning programmes in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to support community-led conservation and sustainable development priorities. He was Deputy Director of the Royal Geographical Society for 30 years, responsible for developing impactful geographical surveys involving government leaders, field scientists, teachers, students, artists and the business community, the first being a major rainforest survey in the mountains of Borneo. In 2005, Nigel joined Earthwatch as its Executive Director, heading its European ‘citizen science’ programmes and its international programmes in Africa, India and the Middle East.

To this day, he is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with brave advocates committed to the 17 sustainable development goals, carbon reduction and habitat restoration on land and sea.

Join us tonight Wednesday 10 June from 6-8pm at Cork Street as we open ‘Agentic Forests’, the first solo London gallery exhibition by New York-based artist Justin Brice Guariglia (@studiojustinbrice).

A series of large-scale pictures printed in acrylic on white gessoed linen canvases, the works rigorously depict infinitely complex forest ecosystems, asserting the forest as agentic - a subject, not an object - that far exceeds human comprehension.

Where contemporary environmental rhetoric tends to reduce the natural world to either something to be protected or something to be mined for resources, Guariglia’s ‘Agentic Forests’ proposes a richer relation that foregrounds our entanglement with and estrangement from the natural world.

After 15 years in the making, I’m excited to share a sneak peek of Agentic Forests, my forthcoming museum show (details to be announced shortly!) debuting this week at @photolondonfair in the Sources section of the fair, brilliantly curated by @lund_tristan and presented by @forfreedoms

Spatially collapsed, overwhelming in detail, and shifted into the UV spectrum referencing avian and insect vision — the works provide a non-human-centric lens to re-see and reconsider our entanglement with and estrangement from the natural world.

The works, acrylic on gessoed linen, at nearly 9’ in length, with no focal hierarchy, operate as immersive color fields with no defined point of entry or exit.

On view through this Sunday at Photo London 2026. taken in Olympia Exhibition Centre by @studiojustinbrice
