Well, that was NOT what I expected from my first Affordable Art Fair Battersea experience!

I finally made it to the fair this afternoon, all excited to see my 9 paintings displayed at Will's Art Warehouse... only to discover that every single one had SOLD!

9 paintings. 9 sales. And one very happy artist!

I'm still trying to take it all in!

A massive thank you to Will's Art Warehouse for representing my work, to Pixie, gallery curator, who made this experience so magical for me, and to everyone who has given my paintings a new home. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful first experience at Battersea.

Feeling incredibly grateful, proud and just a little overwhelmed!

MEET THE ARTISTS:

SWATI SINHA | MIXED MEDIA ARTIST

Meet Swati Sinha, the artist behind Studio Kavachi.

Swati’s story began in Mumbai, with a BFA in Fine Arts specialising in Textile Design from the Sir J. J. School of Art. Although her path later led her into the corporate world—where she completed a Master’s in Human Resource Management at Leeds Business School and built a career in HR—art remained a quiet, constant presence in her life.

Then, in 2019, Swati chose to follow that creative calling home. She left her corporate career and returned to art full-time, opening the door to a new chapter filled with colour, experimentation and possibility.

Today, Swati works across acrylics, oils and mixed media, creating vibrant, expressive paintings shaped by colour, texture, nature, memories and the richness of human experience. Her Indian heritage is woven through her practice too, finding particular expression in her sense of colour as well as Madhubani-inspired artworks.

She has exhibited at several art fairs across the UK & has two successful solo exhibitions at her local gallery in Solihull.

Swati’s creativity doesn’t stop at her own studio practice. She is equally passionate about helping others discover the joy of making art, sharing her knowledge through private lessons, adult workshops and creative courses.

From Mumbai to the UK, and from HR to a life surrounded by paint, Swati’s journey has taken unexpected turns. Yet through every chapter, art was quietly guiding her back to where she truly belonged.

A quiet lane in Venice, caught in the warmth of a summer afternoon.
This is one of those paintings I’m genuinely proud of — capturing the light, reflections and deep, glowing reds of Venice in that fleeting moment.

And today, with the sunlight falling behind the canvas, it almost feels as though the reds have come alive (pic 2).

Sometimes a painting surprises you even after you’ve finished it.

Made with palette knives, acrylics on canvas.

And just like that, Epsom Downs is wrapped up.

A huge thank you to the organisers of Art Surrey for another wonderful art fair and for bringing together such a lovely community of artists and art lovers.

But most importantly, a massive thank you to everyone who stopped by my stand, chatted with me about my work, and took a painting home.

Every painting I create carries a little piece of my time, energy and imagination, so seeing them find new homes is always incredibly special. I hope each one brings you colour, happiness and a little bit of joy for many years to come.

Thank you for supporting my art and for making what I do possible.

MEET THE ARTISTS

LESLEY WHELAN | MIXED MEDIA ARTIST

Working from her studio at Coventry’s Canal Basin for over 15 years, Lesley is a mixed-media artist exploring the relationship between people and the natural world. She’s inspired by plants, their histories and their cultural significance. She combines drawing, hand/laser engraving, and layered painting techniques to create distinctive, richly textured artworks.

Her practice brings together art, research, ethnobotany and technology. Highlights include a year-long artist residency at Winterbourne, University of Birmingham’s Botanic Garden, which led to ‘Taken Root’, a touring exhibition across the UK, and an Arts Council England-funded collaboration with a mathematician from the Uni of Warwick, exploring patterns in nature. Her limited edition prints have been sold through John Lewis & Partners, and she undertakes a wide range of commissions, with work held in corporate and public collections.
