Human trafficking is one of many forms of modern slavery that persist today. Canada is a source, transit, and destination country for forced labour, forced marriage, and commercial sexual exploitation, which are all forms of human trafficking.

We are excited to announce the launch of our new podcast series, ‘Inside Human Trafficking in Canada.’ This podcast series was created and produced by the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth and Youth Troopers for Global Action (YTGA.com). Our goal is to help Canadians get educated to stop exploitation.

Host Dr. Karlee Sapoznik Evans interviews guest experts and lived experience leaders from across the country, discussing the effects of human trafficking in Canada, as well as solutions to this often-hidden crime. On October 16th we hosted our Community Series Story Slam, This Is Our City: Stories That Shape the Vote. We handed young people a microphone and asked them one deeply unhinged question: why are you voting?

And they ANSWERED. With passion.

Here’s Kylie on why she’s showing up for the municipal election this year. 🎤

Turnout in municipal elections is often low, which means a small number of people are making very big decisions about where you live. That’s just math, and it’s fixable. The fix is you, in a voting booth, on October 26th.

Huge, sincere, thank you to @voicethevote.ca for making this night possible. You built the stage. Our youth brought the truth. 💛

Today, we take the time to pause, reflect and honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. A time to reflect on the horrors and harsh realities of Canada’s colonial history and the lasting impacts these systems continue to have on Indigenous Peoples, families and communities.

True reconciliation should not be restricted to one day. It must be an ongoing commitment to listening, learning and taking action. This includes learning from and honouring Indigenous Peoples, cultures, histories, knowledge systems, teachings, languages and practices, while recognizing that this knowledge belongs to and is carried by Indigenous communities.

We have much to learn from the generations of Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands, waters, animals and communities since time immemorial. Learning must be rooted in respect, humility and a willingness to listen to Indigenous voices and leadership, while supporting Indigenous communities in preserving and sharing their own knowledge on their own terms.

Today and every day, may we continue to listen, learn, respect and share Indigenous voices, while carrying the responsibility of reconciliation beyond September 30th and into how we live, work and build our communities.

A couple weeks ago, we said goodbye to our 2520 Eglinton Ave home.

Our community gathered together for a final send off for an evening full of love, laughs, and good times sharing our best memories over the past 12 years. This is definitely not the end, just to be continued for bigger and better things.

🌎 Got a big idea for your community but no idea where to start?

It’s about understanding the systems that shape our communities, our food, our environment, and our future.

After piloting the program last year, Studio.89 | Kind World Charity is back with our second-ever Rising Leaders for Climate Action program, made possible with funding from the AEO Foundation.

This one-month intensive brings together young changemakers in Grade 10 through Second Year University in Mississauga to explore what climate action can actually look like in practice.

Together, you’ll dive into:

🌱 Climate action & policy
🥕 Food systems & food policy and how what we produce, distribute, and consume connects to climate change
🐾 The interconnected impacts of our choices on humans, animals, and the planet
🤝 Leadership, advocacy, and working with community leaders
💡 Turning big ideas into practical, action-based solutions

And because a good idea deserves more than a PowerPoint presentation, teams will develop a capstone project and work with $1,000 in seed funding to help turn their idea into reality.

Come learn. Question the systems. Build something better.
