Alex and OJ named their Zhongshan home “House of Soil.” In Buddhist teachings, all phenomena arise from conditions yet are inherently empty—and soil embodies this wisdom. It embraces decay while nurturing new life. The concept of “Soil”came to them as an epiphany upon their return: soil is where all things return, and also where life begins. Rather than purely following Buddhism, they believe more in applying the wisdom of Buddhist teachings to daily life. The design philosophy of SOIL is something one can perceive through the senses—just as they once felt the warmth of the earth with the soles of their feet. Every inch of land is unique; every tree and stone carries a living presence.

Working with near perfection on the daily, it can be easy to forget the beauty of a snapshot.

With the on-going haze in Singapore resulting in shoot postponements, some time freed up to process two rolls of film I've had sitting in the fridge since March this year.

Unfortunately, through processing these rolls shot on my Mamiya 7, it seems the camera's developed some light leaking issues or perhaps some kind of hazing on the lens which is a little disappointing. by @studioperiphery

Back on the east coast with @chan.sy_architects for this multi-generational home.

Designed akin to a private club, the expansive front porch serves not only as an entrance but also accommodates a collection of vehicles. Layered volumes, framed vistas, and screened corridors add depth to a minimal palette with living and gathering spaces oriented inward to enhance privacy.

In this year’s copy of @betapluspublishing’s Timeless Living coffee table book, our very first project with @soil.studios in Hainan is featured, marking the first of a series of on-going collaborations.

—

We’ve got a number of projects published, beautifully printed in a series of books, brochures, and magazines over the last couple of years.

With how quickly and informally media is shared these days, it’s frankly difficult to trace where much of our work gets printed, but we’ve been lucky with many of our amazing clients and collaborators who have generously shared copies of these books with us.

Of-course nothing beats thumbing through these pages in person, but we’re taking some time now to carefully document our favourites so we can share them with you here. by @studioperiphery

Our latest work with @omgatelier takes us to a home that sits on a narrow but deep site with multiple green pockets.

Inside, living spaces work themselves around a planted courtyard, functioning to let light and air into common areas when large sliding and bifold doors are kept open.
