The NAT Gala 2026, New York.
Creative direction by Nathan Prince.

Water is life.

I wanted the night to feel less like a programme of separate commissions and more like one living system. The room became the medium: film, sound, performance, light, architecture and bodies all moving through the same world.

For Act I, I worked with Filipe Gomes on a sound piece built from his archive of field recordings. One body of water travelled from mountain stream to river, ocean and back again, woven through gongs, singing bowls, sine-wave harmonies and bowed instruments behaving almost like rain.

The gongs responded directly to Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden at the centre of the room. Water, stone and stillness were already there. We wanted the sound to lean into that meditative quality and make the space itself feel as though it were resonating.

That same thinking became visual too, with a water-cycle diagram evolving through the evening from physical process to feedback, regeneration, memory and return.

Sophie Hunter Studio’s Salt of the Earth filled the room with 24 voices.

DeeJay Two Bears’ What Came Before began life as a planned film screening and became a visceral live dance work with Jon Boogz, ending with an Indigenous prayer carrying the message Water Is Life.

I directed two films for the evening, The Science of Optimism with Thomas Crowther and A Correspondence from the Deep with Dr Sylvia Earle, before the night finally broke open into a Coral Rave, with an opening track built from the actual sounds of coral and Coral Gardeners footage transformed into live visuals.

Optimism is not blind hope. It is a grounded prerequisite for action and the evidence that systems can change direction.

During THE NAT GALA 2026, we screened The Science of Optimism, a @studioprince__ film featuring @thomascrowtherofficial.

Crowther explains how feedback loops can drive both collapse and recovery. Reminding us that humans are an active part of nature’s systems, the film moves through forests, rainfall, food production, restoration, technology and human behaviour, showing how regenerative options can cascade into positive tipping points.

Systems can change direction, and we can help drive that change.

The story of the ocean is not only a story of loss.

At THE NAT GALA 2026, we screened “A Correspondence: From the Deep”, a @studioprince__ film featuring @dr.sylviaearle.

Through Sylvia’s voice and ocean imagery, the film moves between loss and return. Reefs recover. Wetlands hold. Whales return.

An honour to bring The NAT Gala to life for a second year, in partnership with @thenat____ and @sunshine.

Water was at the heart of this year’s evening: an immersive journey of light, sound and story, from quiet contemplation to real connection, ending with a coral rave under the sea.

In The Stream of Life marked the beginning of a long-running collaboration between @nathan____prince, @nickrenegade, and the @londonphilharmonicorchestra, with fifty performances filmed inside an empty Royal Festival Hall during lockdown.

The work shaped a visual and emotional language that continues today across sixty-three shows and counting.

Nature Returns- THE NAT

“A living metaphor for growth and interconnection, Nature Returns reimagines proof-of-impact as a visual poem: anchored in the idea that we are nature, it regenerates existing material into a carbon-neutral work, carrying the themes of regeneration, joy, and nature as a contemporary cultural force. Fragments of farming, fishing, fashion, seascapes, and biodiversity form a wider choreography of renewal. The soundtrack mirrors nature’s energy and our place within it, the power of land, sky, and ocean, and the fragility of inhabitation. A non-linear imprint, it is a regenerative collage that reminds us that when we invest in nature, nature returns.”

Studio Prince collaborated with @thenat____ ,@incaevent & @sunshinecompany to make two films for the inageral NAT GALA that kicked off Climate Week in New York last month. You can find ‘Redefining Heroes’ on the grid, too.

We worked to an ultra low carbon target and hit just 0.18 tCO₂e. We then offset 2 tonnes through Gold Standard projects in Colombia and Panama, more than 10× our footprint, making the films carbon neutral, regenerative, and giving back more than they took.
