I figured it’s a great time to introduce myself, only six years too late.

I’m Holly, and Studio QN is mine. I started freelancing in 2020, which, looking back, was probably a fairly questionable decision. I didn’t have a particularly grand plan, but I had an overwhelming desire to give it a go. It was terrifying. I’ve since discovered that freelancing is essentially just finding increasingly creative ways to scare yourself, but here we are, six years later.

Over that time, I’ve worked not just as a freelance photographer, but in several other jobs too, all in various ways helping me keep this dream alive. You may have seen me on the Westport of Dundee, behind a bar, in a gallery, or doing one of the many jobs I’ve picked up along the way.

Yesterday I spent some time updating and adjusting my website, whilst getting my hair done (@hairbyntash is the best btw) and I got reminded of all the work that I’ve done, and that made me a bit emotional. I’m very good at getting wrapped up in the admin of running a business and forget to actually look at what I have built.

Gigs, festivals, events, artists, side hustles, brilliant people, (many) mistakes, lots of ‘so glad I did that’.

Looking back through my work was a pretty good reminder that, despite all the admin and occasional panic, I’ve actually done some really cool shit. So here are some of my favourites from the last six years.

And to everyone who has worked with me, recommended me, shared my work, trusted me with a camera, or just followed Studio QN, thank you so much.

Anyway, still freelancing. Still figuring it out. Still occasionally wondering what the hell I’m doing. But still loving it.

Happy 6th birthday, Studio QN. 🤘🏼 by @studioqn
