Happy Sunday! Digital portfolio updated (as far as I can remember anyway!) It’s fairly chunky, but I think (hopefully) visually varied and magazine-like that it’s not TOO much of a drag, unless you particularly want to read more of the reasons behind things and the process, but I wouldn’t wish that on mah worst enemy! The 2017 Festival Programme - The Story of Our Paper From previous experience, it was clear that people visiting the festival saw the programme not only as information but almost as an exhibition item in itself. As such the 2017 programme contained more commissioned pieces of writing including a piece by design writer Katie Treggiden exploring how design can help cities once entirely reliant on industry to thrive again, interviews with festival contributors and even reprints of pages from the Beano. Graphic designer Angela Gahagan worked with Sion Parkinson to explore how the physicality of the brochure could reflect the Factory Floor theme through making visible the paper, printing and binding processes. This resulted in a partnership with festival supporters G.F Smith. Colorplan - G.F Smith’s pioneering range of coloured papers - provided an unprecedented number of possibilities for the programme. Colorplan represents an exceptional achievement in paper making, over the last 80 years G.F Smith have continually refined, perfected, and pushed the range to its limits. Every one of its 55 colours, 25 embossings and 10 weights is made sustainably, in the UK. Through exploring the possibilities of this product, the programme became a selection of papers with a variety of embossing techniques applied to the pages. Colorplan Factory Yellow 270gsm provided the striking cover, with the internal pages Mohawk True White Smooth 118gsm, Colorplan Smoke Cord embossing 135gsm, Colorplan Smoke Granular embossing 135gsm and Colorplan Real Grey Fabric embossing 135gsm. Print, printing and printmaking was a major part of the festival in 2017 reflecting Dundee’s design and industrial heritage and profiling the contemporary designers from whom print is a central part of their practice. #visitdundee2021 #dundeedesignfestival #design #dundee #festival #unescocitiesofdesign #visualidentity #graphicdesign #graphics #digital #print #programme #paper #papermaking #colour #colorplan #gfsmith ---- Programme Printing by Winter & Simpson Programme Design by Angela Gahagan @ginger.specky.weegie Identity Design by Lyall Bruce @lyallbruce 📸: Holly Quinn @hollyqnphotos

Branding 2016 — The Brochures Festivals tend to have a festival programme and traditionally a printed programme at that. The Dundee Design Festival was no different. Graphic Designer Angela Gahagan worked with the festival’s identity pattern designed by Lyall Bruce to produce a printed programme which unmistakably belonged to DDF 2016. The programme was envisaged as more than an event listing, or a guide to an exhibition. It should be something that visitors wanted to keep, as a reminder of their visit and a reference tool and so the 2016 festival had two programmes. The first was a taster of the events and exhibition programme distributed across Scotland to promote and attract people to the festival. The second was a much more substantial publication with content from many contributors. It contained short essays from exhibitors and interviews with designers. Highlighting the stories behind exhibits, and the people who took part in the event programme, this publication helped visitors to navigate the festival and explore it in more depth. #visitdundee2021 #dundeedesignfestival #design #dundee #festival #unescocitiesofdesign #visualidentity #graphicdesign #graphics #digital #print #programme ---- Brochure Printing by Winter & Simpson Brochure Design by Angela Gahagan @ginger.specky.weegie Identity Design by Lyall Bruce @lyallbruce 📸: @hollyqnphotos
