Soft launching this new era as Studio Rickner, hard launching large format film photography in my wedding work. During my time in art school, I worked almost exclusively with a large format film camera to create my fine art work. It was my bread and butter for portraiture, and allowed me to connect with people in a way that digital couldn’t quite achieve. There’s something disarming about this camera —maybe it’s the fact that it’s foreign to most people, or that the process is slower— but I’ve found it allows people to let down their guard a little and reveal a softer side in their portrait. When I entered the wedding industry, I never thought I’d be able to incorporate this kind of technical film work, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed like kind of the perfect addition to a wedding. Something soft and slow, intentional and beautiful. I’m hopeful that it attracts just the kind of people I’m looking for — the artists, the dreamers, the curious… people who are searching for something unique to help punctuate their wedding day. hello friends ✌️ new photos, updated website, spring energy is in the air! So while I’m at it, here’s a quick look at what life is like — + I’m a full time freelance photographer and artist in Minneapolis + proud member of LGBTQ community 🌈 + my freelance work is a mix of portraiture, weddings, and assisting! I assist an architectural photographer @gafferphoto throughout the week and we get to travel a bunch throughout the country! + my fine art studio practice (not pictured on the gram) is centered around intimate portraiture with my 4x5 large format camera. You’ll have to head to my website to peep those beauties ;) + in addition to my own weddings, I am an associate photographer for @chelseareeckphoto (who also happened to take this photo!) and I love taking on weddings for her because we attract the same kind of clients / work very similarly. It’s an amazing partnership ❣️ + if you read this far, I’m so grateful for your support! If I had it my way I would stay off the gram completely - I struggle to put together stuff to share. It’s a lot of work! I'm so excited to share that the 2020 Gucci campaign I worked on this summer has finally been released! I had the great opportunity to assist Alec Soth in Rome, Italy while he photographed the campaign; all final images are shot on 8x10 large format.
