This past weekend we had an eventful evening to celebrate the opening of
“There Once Were Millions”

Thank you to everyone who joined us 🌱

We heard from documentary photographer, Elizabeth Weber and filmmaker, Ole Schell on how this exhibition highlights the duality of nature’s degradation and its healing @e_p_weber @orvilleschell_farms

“This exhibition is both an expression of reverence and a call to action to protect this iconic butterfly and its migration.” - Elizabeth Weber

And a big thank you to our participating 3026 artists and our incredible partners, especially the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, who helped make it all happen! @samofund @samofieldinstitute

🐝 Ways you can help monarch butterflies and pollinators:

- Set out a bowl of water with a rock to let butterflies land, hydrate, and rest
- Plant California native plants, including narrowleaf milkweed, California poppy, lilac, and buckwheat to provide nutrients and safe landing pads
- Remove tropical milkweed which is an invasive species that spreads parasites by @studios_3026

5:00 - 8:00 pm There Once Were Millions Exhibition Reception

“There Once Were Millions” combines art and ecology featuring artwork by Elizabeth Weber, Studios 3026 artists, and a short film by Ole Schell on the West Marin Monarch Sanctuary.

The opening will include a screening of the short film, panel discussion, and a drop in art workshop.

What if we followed the monarch’s journey, not just across landscapes, but through art, memory, and the work of those protecting its future? 🦋

Join SAMO Fund Field Institute and partners this Saturday for an art + ecology evening celebrating the opening of There Once Were Millions: A Monarch Exhibit, featuring artwork by Elizabeth Weber.

🍋 5-6:30 pm: Refreshments and a drop-in shell workshop with Low Hanging Fruit.

🎥 6:45 pm: Screening of the short film, Creating the West Marin Monarch Sanctuary, followed by a panel discussion with filmmaker Ole Schell and local plant and butterfly experts.

🎉 7:30 pm: Giveaway announced!

🎟️ Free and open to all

Spend an evening with the western monarch butterfly and with people working to ensure its story continues.

This experiential reception is being made possible by Studios 3026, West Marin Monarch Sanctuary, Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, and Ventura County Resource Conservation District.
