Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of There Once Were Millions: A Monarch Exhibit! This evening of art and ecology was full of hope, concern, and possibility.

From the creative shell workshop with Low Hanging Fruit to the screening of Creating the West Marin Monarch Sanctuary & the inspiring panel discussion that followed, the evening offered many ways to connect with the western monarch’s story.

A special thank you to our wonderful panelists: filmmaker Ole Schell and the local experts, including Joey Algiers, who shared their knowledge and passion.

Your perspectives helped bring the exhibition’s themes to life.

And of course, thank you to artist Elizabeth Weber for sharing work that invites us to pause and imagine a future where monarchs often fill our skies.

There Once Were Millions is a celebration but also an invitation: to notice what remains, to learn from those doing the work, and to help ensure the monarch’s story continues.

Gratitude to our partners who made this evening possible: Studios 3026 and artists, West Marin Monarch Sanctuary, Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, and Ventura County Resource Conservation District🧡

One of my collectors said to me that they loved hanging out with me because they never knew which remembered moment might turn up in one of my artworks. At this edition of @theotherartfair at Barker Hangar my collector and dear friend @tsahibanton found herself caught in a moment of looking at art in one of my drawings. She had it take it home with her.

I'm excited for one more day of The Other Art Fair - today Sunday, September 27 from 11am to 6pm. Maybe you will find yourself in a Chadwick artwork!

My favorite part of The Other Art Fair is the magic of connection! This lovely couple stopped in front of my painting "The Silver Hour (Disney Hall)" and smiled in recognition. In conversation they told me that the painting brought them great joy because they met for the first time and fell in love while they both worked at Disney Hall. A beautiful moment indeed!

What an Opening for The Other Art Fair at Barker Hangar! When the DJ @tttkay spun Marvin Gaye to start off the evening, I knew we were in for a amazing night. A collection of my recent Los Angeles inspired paintings seems to create painted movies on my booth walls.
A trio of these cinematic oil on linen artworks found their home with a lovely L.A. couple. Thank you to the collectors, gallerist, art lovers, friends and family who spent time at Booth 147 with me yesterday. Let's do it again tonight!
5-10 pm.

Have you registered for “Where Legends Took Flight”, Part One of Santa Monica Mosaic’s fall series Final Approach?

This Sunday, September 27 at 5 pm, the show delves into the legacy of the historic Santa Monica Airport. It also invites our special guests to share the lasting impact of the airport on our local community: the growth of the onsite artist community and the gathering of volunteer pilots inspired to transport families to the medical support they need — regardless of distance.

Our esteemed host, Libby Motika, will be joined by three speakers whose lifetime endeavors are woven into the airport’s story.

Swipe to learn more about them!

Gregg Chadwick is a Santa Monica–based painter whose work explores time, place, and memory. Through a process of applying multiple layers of oil paint, Gregg allows ghosts of earlier ideas to remain visible, constructing a non-linear narrative where the past and present coexist. Chadwick’s work has been exhibited worldwide and is held in public and private collections.

Cheri Cimmarrusti has been a dedicated member of Angel Flight West for 29 years. Cheri served as director of mission operations for 11 years, during which annual mission volume grew from approximately 900 flights to nearly 4,500 — a testament to her leadership and commitment. She now serves as the associate executive director, overseeing all Mission Operations and Volunteer Services procedures, helping ensure the organization’s lifesaving flights are carried out safely and efficiently.

Nina Fresco is the author of “First Around the World”, a culmination of over a decade of research into the past of Santa Monica Airport, delving into its evolution and undeniable impact on the city and global aviation. She is the vice president of the Santa Monica Conservancy Board; a member and former chair of the Santa Monica Planning Commission; and former chair of the Civic Working Group, formed to advise Council on options for the future of the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
