Nearly 40 years after I.M. Pei’s once-controversial pyramid reshaped the Louvre Museum, the storied Paris art landmark is preparing for another major architectural intervention — this time led by STUDIOS Architecture Paris @studiosarchitecture @studiosarchitecture_paris and Selldorf Architects @selldorfarchitects. French officials today selected the team’s proposal for the new “Grande Colonnade” project, a sweeping effort to untangle circulation, improve access, and give the world’s busiest museum a little more room to breathe.

Instead of chasing another instantly recognizable icon, the scheme takes a more restrained approach, focusing on the Louvre’s eastern edge with greener public spaces, landscaped moats, new underground entrances, and gentler circulation routes carved into the existing stonework.

Restaurants, bookshops, and shaded gathering spaces are quietly folded into the infrastructure, while BASE Landscape Architecture @baseland_ leads the landscape design.

The shortlist was stacked, including Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Amanda Levete Architects, SANAA with Dubuisson Architecture, and Sou Fujimoto Architects.

The project now enters a consultation phase with museum staff, heritage agencies, city officials, and the public before moving into further development.

First impressions? Thoughts? Share in the comments.

As the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens its doors, we're proud to celebrate a project years in the making and STUDIOS' role in bringing its extraordinary vision to life. Our work focused on select interior environments and furniture concepts, including spaces for museum staff, education programs, the library, the entry lobby, and the galleries. Throughout the process, we explored how furniture, architecture, and experience could feel cohesive, helping create spaces that are welcoming, inclusive, and connected to the museum's larger vision.

Seeing elements of those early ideas come to life is especially meaningful on a project of this scale, shaped by so many talented teams and collaborators who worked together to launch the Lucas Museum. Special thanks to Susanna Sirefman and her firm Dovetail Design Strategists, for developing and leading the invited interior architect selection process for our role on this groundbreaking project.

Congratulations to the Lucas Museum team and everyone who helped bring this extraordinary new cultural destination to life.

We celebrated the ribbon cutting and completion of Phase 2 of John R. Thompson Jr. High School!

The $91 million project includes a 33,000-square-foot addition with new science, art, music, and technology-equipped learning spaces, expanding the school’s capacity to 800 students.

The ribbon cutting coincided with the first day of school and the first under the school’s new name, honoring Hall of Fame Georgetown Coach John Thompson Jr., a legendary coach, educator, and mentor. His impact reached far beyond basketball through his commitment to education and creating opportunities for students and youth across Washington, DC.

We’re honored to have helped deliver a school that will carry Coach Thompson’s legacy forward while providing students with new spaces to learn, grow, and succeed.

Congratulations to our project team and partners whose dedication and hard work brought this incredible project to life! #BuildingOurCommunity by @studiosarchitecture

In remembrance of the late Dolly Parton, we’re reminiscing on the Dolly-inspired elements of Lyft’s Nashville, TN Headquarters. The space was designed to embrace Nashville’s musical roots – which couldn’t be done without incorporating the iconic musician, actress, and philanthropist. The Dolly Room, complete with blonde wigs and a quote from Dolly herself, pays tribute to the iconic singer and musician, offering a fun setting to meet and relax. Thank you Dolly for inspiring artists everywhere – even in the most unexpected places.

This expansion includes:
🧪An entire floor of new science classrooms
🎨2 new art rooms
🎶2 music classrooms
-An administrative space
💻Technology-equipped learning spaces
🌳An outdoor classroom
🏞️An indoor courtyard & views of the Potomac River

Energy and Sustainability Features:
-Future rooftop solar photovoltaic arrays
-Green roofs

“We are proud to see another major milestone completed,” said Director Hunter. “Keeping a school open during a major construction project was no small task. I’m proud of what we delivered today and grateful to the teams that made it happen.”

We could not deliver this project without the work of our Capital Construction Team, DGS Project Managers Tom Henderson + Monet Williams, our design-build team MCN Build and Studios Architecture, our partners at DCPS, Principal McCray, CM Frumin, and ALL involved!🙌🏿 by @studiosarchitecture

With the ability to transform lives for the better, architecture is a powerful tool for change. This pride month, we re-commit to a design process that involves everyone: designers, clients, communities, and cultures, because every voice matters. Design born of multiple perspectives fosters effective ideas, where the rational and inspirational come together to create meaningful, lasting spaces.

Design has the power to transform lives, and we're proud to use that power for inclusion. 🌈 by @studiosarchitecture

#DGSBuilds— We’re celebrating the topping out milestone of the new $50.8M Fort Lincoln Campus Improvement Project in #Ward5. “This new campus will offer residents of every age a place to learn, play, and connect — from early childhood education to recreation and wellness programs,” said DPR Director Thennie Freeman.

“This project represents the very best of what DGS does, which is building spaces that matter to DC families,” said Director Hunter. Together, we are creating opportunities, investing in local businesses, and delivering a space that will serve the Fort Lincoln community in many different ways.”

We could not do this work without our design-build team, MCN Build + Studios Architecture, Project Manager Michael Etherton, and DPR PM Brent Sisco, our client agency, DPR, CBEs, our Capital Construction Services Project Team, and all involved. Over the past decade, Mayor Muriel Bowser has invested more than $600 million to modernize recreation centers across the District.

We are excited to continue working to deliver this project to the community!
