🎨Get ready for the second ever Detroit Art Gallery Crawl, hosted by StudiOU and the OU AAHD! We’ll be exploring Detroit and checking out four incredible art galleries!

🖼️We’ll start at the Detroit Institute of Arts, then we’ll visit Wasserman Projects, we’ll have a break for lunch at Eastern Market, and then we’ll head to Matéria Gallery and The Shepherd!

📆October 17 from 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. Carpool cars will leave from p2 at 9:00 A.M., anyone who is not carpooling will meet at the DIA at 10:00 A.M.!

This upcoming Tuesday, April 7th from 6-7 pm, local Detroit artist Emilia Nawrocki will be giving an artist talk and presentation at Oakland University!

Emilia Nawrocki (BFA Wayne State University) is a Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist whose figurative work “explores the facets of her identity, religious trauma, human evolution, and feminist beliefs through references to mythology and storytelling.” In collaboration with StudiOU, she will be giving a talk in which she will describe her artistic influences, her journey so far as a locally-exhibiting emerging artist, and how to enter the world of art exhibition.

Join us in Meeting Rooms 129 and 130 in the Oakland Center! Attendance is free and open to anyone!

📑 It’s all about multiples! 📑
In art and design, the term “edition” refers to a reproduction of an original master image. Honoring this technique, we are starting off the new semester with a button and linocut stamp-making activity!
If you would like to make your own pinback buttons or linocut stamps, join us on Tuesday, 1/26 at 5:30 PM in Wilson Hall room 109!
* The materials for the button maker and linocut carving will be provided, but we encourage you to bring your own images to make into buttons if desired. by @studiou.ou

This past weekend, students in StudiOU (the student club for the Art area in the Dept. of Art, Art History and Design), accompanied by Art and Art History faculty, took a day-long field trip to tour a number of art venues throughout Detroit. This included visits to The Shepherd, Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC), Signal-Return, the Heidelberg Project, a stop for lunch at Eastern Market, then on to Wasserman Projects, the N’Namdi Center, and ending at the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery at Wayne State University. Thank you to the locations that hosted us! A great time was had by all.

🌆StudiOU Detroit Art Gallery Crawl!🌇

The Department of Art, Art History, and Design and StudiOU are partnering together to provide an opportunity for students to tour some of the many art galleries and organizations that Detroit has to offer. Join us on Saturday, November 8th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (estimated) to be immersed in Detroit’s art scene!

In order, our gallery visitation itinerary is as follows: *
— The Shepherd
— Signal Return
— Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC)
— The Heidelberg Project
— Wasserman Projects
Lunch break in Eastern Market **
— Library Street Collective (downtown Detroit)
— N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art

* Plans are subject to change if necessary.
** The galleries following lunch are OPTIONAL for attendees who would like to continue exploring more of Detroit’s art galleries. Those who would like to conclude their participation in this event early may do so after our lunch break.
NOTE: This event will involve a lot of walking. Please eat a good breakfast in the morning and bring a water bottle!

The weather today is looking beautiful, so that means…
🌿 PLEIN AIR PARTY TONIGHT!! 🌾
Plein air is a French term referring to the act of painting outdoors.
We will meet in West Wilson Hall room 109 at 5:30 PM, and then head outside around Bear Lake to sketch OU’s beautiful campus!

🎨 Please bring drawing or painting supplies if you have any; we have a limited supply of materials that participants can borrow!
