Today Oakland University Art, Art History and Design students and faculty took a field trip to Detroit, organized by StudiOU—the art student club, to visit the “Georgia O’Keefe: Architecture” exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts; the exhibitions “Polly Apfelbaum: A Women’s Circle,” “Ferren Gipson: Re:union” and “Gyan Shrosbree’s Out Fit” at Wasserman Projects; the exhibition “Olayami Dabls: Iron, Rocks, Wood, and Mirrors. Looking Back” at Matéria Eastern Market; and “Tyree Guyton: Everlasting Life” at The Shepherd. Special thanks to Allison Wong of Wasserman Projects and Simone DeSousa of Matéria for taking the time to discuss their exhibitions with our students. A great time was had by all on a beautiful, crisp sunny day in the city.

Harvest Fest 🎃🍗‼️🗣️ It was finally time I made a totally perfect Green, so here it is! ‼️ Drawn on the table thingy for @studiou.ou at OU’s Harvest Fest ‘26, also pleae dont tell me they look like shrek in this. I already know. I don’t need to know again.

I also drew King Boo, but specifically the one from Mario Sunshine. He is the only canon King Boo I’ll accept. No debates.

This past weekend, students in StudiOU (the student club for the Art area in the Dept. of Art, Art History and Design), accompanied by Art and Art History faculty, took a day-long field trip to tour a number of art venues throughout Detroit. This included visits to The Shepherd, Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC), Signal-Return, the Heidelberg Project, a stop for lunch at Eastern Market, then on to Wasserman Projects, the N’Namdi Center, and ending at the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery at Wayne State University. Thank you to the locations that hosted us! A great time was had by all.

WXOU is hosting its 2nd Harvest Festival on October 10th, 2025 in front of Elliot Tower. We are looking for small businesses, performers, and artists from the Oakland University and surrounding Communities to be featured.

If you or your organization is interested in being featured, please fill out the forms linked in our bio!!

Some examples of what we are looking for include (but are not limited to):

I really don't put a lot of weight into the cultural celebration of a new year because my understanding of time usually doesn't align with that of the modern calendar. But man, this was a hell of a year!
The growth I've had personally and artistically astounds me as I look back. I did a lot of firsts. Got to travel for my art for the first time, drove across the country and back in a day 😂, flew to New York for some pizza, gained a lot of cool relationships in this art thing, dipped my toes into the world of furniture design, spent a copious amount of time in nature, spoke at a university and worked with the DIA 🤯
I believe the goals I've set for this year have been met for all intents and purposes. There's some things still on the table to complete that I'll have to push for next year but that's what comes with setting lofty goals (and next year's are extremely lofty 😈🥸)
So thanks to everyone that's supported me, shared a laugh, been there when I needed them, tried a weird food idea of mine, or just was an ear for a good rant. Love y'all and let's keep our heads up for next year 🫡
